It was supposed to be a regular day. Beating villains, saving the city, being badass, you know the drill. Regular, normal spiderman things.

So I cleared up three robberies, one wannabe villain-of-the-week, and one hostage situation on my way to work. But just as I was swinging in to clock in, my senses told me another bad guy was causing a commotion. I turned around, really hoping this was my last one. Or I was going to be very, very late.

If only I knew.

I waltzed into a grocery store, in the center of the mess. It was eerily quiet.

'Alright, enough hiding! I'm here!' I called. 'It's time to pop up and get sat down!'

'Raaarh!' something roared from behind me, bursting out of the rubble. I didn't even turn around, just pulled the thing in with my web and sucker punched it.

'You know, you're really making me late for work,' I sighed, wrapping it up with webs. It was a half-gorilla half-chicken, and I really didn't want to know. Police pulled up and took it away, leaving me checking my watch frantically.

I was definitely about to lose my job.

As I was walking out of the store, I didn't notice a banana peel on the floor. Before I knew it, the floor was getting closer. Today was not my day.

Before I could roll and get up gracefully, an arm encircled my stomach. I tensed, ready to fight, before I noticed the claws, red suit, and portal behind me.

I turned around, face to face with my only friend. 'Miguel,' I said, a little breathless. 'Good timing.'

He set me on my feet and backed away. 'You know, for someone who boasts about being undefeated, it sure is embarrassing to be taken down by a banana.'

'Bananas are more dangerous than you think,' I replied, nudging him with my arm. 'Besides, why would I need to worry if you're here to pick me up?'

He sighed, and just like that, my humor faded. 'I need your help,' he said, turning around. Now I was staring at his back, and it was really distracting.

'There's this anomaly on Earth-778,' he continued. 'I would ask my usual team, but they're on another mission.'

He paused. 'You're the only one I can trust with this.'

This was worrying. Miguel was seeking my help personally? Of course, I would go anywhere with him, but he was more than capable of handling the toughest of villains.

'There's more,' I said. 'What are you not telling me?'

He shook his head. 'Not here, Parker.'

Only then did I notice the crowd outside the grocery store, snapping pictures and cheering. I sighed and opened a portal with my watch, beckoning him inside. We walked into Spider-Society HQ, heading directly to his office.

Miguel swung in front of me, and I couldn't help but stare. It was no secret that I had fallen for this man the moment I saw him, but he chose to keep everyone at arms' length. Everyone, even me. And I respected that.

But this was seriously going to hinder our mission. Miguel was a huge distraction, and I hadn't been on a solo mission with him... well, ever. And just looking at him made me forget everything else. Worlds, even.

This is bad. I'm Spiderman. I can't let one man be my priority.

'Focus, focus, focus,' I muttered. 'Stop it.'

'Stop what?'

We were at Miguel's office. And Miguel was standing right in front of me. His chest was literally an inch from my face. I looked up slowly, and he had his mask off. His head was slightly tilted, staring down at me.

Holy fucking god of man tiddies.

'Parker?' he asked, confused. 'Are you okay?'

I backed up abruptly, laughing. 'Yes! Yes. I'm fine. Was just thinking about the banana- I mean, groceries! You know, the repairs for that store? Must cost a fortune. They sell my favorite kind of cheese, too. Did you know I love cheese?'

He gave me a deadpan stare, clearly not believing me. I sighed and took my mask off.

'I just have a lot on my mind,' I admitted. And having you this close to me does NOT help.

We took the elevator up to his office, and I crashed on his chair.

'So, anomalies!' I chirped. 'Just another day in the office. Why do you need me?'

He gave me his full attention, and I crossed my legs super unsuspiciously. No one could tell I was literally melting. No one. I was cool as a cucumber.

'I need your special skills,' he said. I have plenty of special skills. You gotta be more clear than that.

I only realized I'd said that out loud when he pinned me with that stare of his again.

'And what skills are you referring to, exactly?' he asked, moving closer.

Oh shit. Ohhhh no. This was not good.

A/N: okay, I got tired. Just watched Spiderverse 2 yesterday and this man had me screaming the whole time. Decided I might as well write it.
