'You know, Spider-man skills...' I trailed off, looking up at him.

Dang, he gotta stop getting in my face like this. It's hard to think when he's this close, all my sass just leaves me. It's like he makes my brain short circuit.

'I'm going to ask you again,' he said tilting my chin up. 'What. Skills?'

Holy shit. I had nowhere to run. He had me backed up against the computer, his body brushing against mine. I could feel every ridge of every muscle, and it was impeding my judgement.

'Skills you're never going to know of,' I crooned, standing on the chair so I was at his height, staring him down. 'You got a problem with that?'

He took another second to stare into my soul, his eyes narrowing. Then he turned away, giving me breathing room again. Damn, this man was intense.

'I was talking about your fire webs,' he clarified. 'This anomaly spreads in a different way. It's like an ice age, engulfing the earth slowly. I've developed some tech to contain it for now, but it's not going to hold for long.'

I nodded, still recovering from what happened earlier. 'What do you need me to do?'

'I've inserted web into these machines, and I need them to sample your fire so they can recreate it and contain the ice. The spider-man of that world is injured, so we have to clean up other
messes too.'

'Sure...' I trailed off. 'Wait, how exactly are you going to contain literal glaciers with my webs?'

He shook his head. 'You'll see.'

Totally not ominous. I have SO many details about this world. This mission is going to be a breeze.

'Suit up, we leave now,' Miguel said.

We walked out of his office and he made another portal. I put my mask on just as he walked through.

I took a deep breath. Another world to save, no biggie. The only problem was that I was alone. With Miguel O'Hara.

'Parker,' he barked from the other side. 'Come on.'

I walked through, and fell straight down. We were atop a skyscraper.

What's with this guy and weird portals?

Like, think about it. Who in their right mind would portal inside a grocery store? Right in front of a banana peel?

I shot webs, swung and landed on another building, looking for him and taking in my surroundings. We were in a city like Nuvea York, but there was something wrong.

There was no noise.

'Miguel?' I called, swinging back to the building we portaled on. 'Where are you?'

No response.

What the heck? Where was this guy? There were no villains in sight, and he spoke to me literally five seconds ago.

'Miguel!' I called again. 'Are you oka-'

He slammed into me, completely taking me by surprise. He swung me into another building, where he pinned me against the wall.

'Are you trying to get us killed?' he hissed, an inch from my face.

'What the fuck, dude?' I breathed. 'What is going on?'

He still had his mask off, so I could see the aggression encompassing his features. His face was in a half-sneer, fangs on full display.

I wonder how they would feel...

Before I could do something REALLY stupid like reach out and touch them, I pushed him off me.

'You need to start explaining, fast,' I hissed, my anger worsening since I couldn't resist him, even if he just slammed me into a building. Which I may or may not have liked. 'What exactly is going on?'

Miguel was rational. He wouldn't just snap at me for no reason.

'The ice age in this world bought about dormant creatures from underground,' he replied, looking around. 'They're extremely dangerous, and took over this city. They have extremely good hearing, and you yelling my name just gave away our location.'

'Well, maybe if you'd mentioned this before, I wouldn't have done that,' I whispered. 'This is on you.'

He sighed and pulled his mask on. 'I didn't know you'd lose sight of me once you were out of the portal. I'm sorry.'

I patted his shoulder and moved closer. 'Is there anything else I should know?'

He nodded and I leaned forward, anticipating his response.

'Your breath smells like cheese.'

I just punched him off the building.

He swung around and landed next to me. 'I deserved that,' he chuckled.

'Anything of importance that I should know?'

'The origin of the ice age is about three miles from here, in the heart of the city. And when you're right next to it, your webs freeze. Well, mine do. Yours should be okay.'

I nodded, understanding why Miguel sought my help personally. It would be stupid to bring the regular team here, spidermen were heavily handicapped without webs.

'What about you?' I asked. 'Are you going to be okay?'

'I'll manage.'

I didn't question him further as we both swung towards the heart of the city. My breath trailed behind me in a cloud of vapor, and I could feel the temperature dropping rapidly. Miguel would be without webs soon, and it would be up to me to keep us safe.

I still hadn't seen those creatures he spoke about, and that worried me. It was hard to speak while traveling like this, and I knew Miguel wouldn't appreciate me yelling to him again.

I guess I would just have to wait and see.
