Melody's POV

HORSE

Allan was thankfully not home, he and his family went to Rockefeller center to Ice skate. They took my mom and my sister as well. It's just my dad and I at home.

"Good morning." He greeted me. I smiled at him. He was sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast.

"Good morning dad." I replied. I poured myself some orange juice and grabbed a small snack as I sat down with him.

"Melody," my dad started, I prepared myself for what was to come. I can tell by his tone that he wants to talk about something serious, "you know that I want nothing but the best for you. The past few months have not been... well let's just say I don't want to relive them again." He continued. I nodded and listened intently. I know I put everyone through hell... "I believe everyone makes mistakes and I don't want to hold that against anyone. I only want for you to be happy." He said. "I started seeing that spark in your eyes again when you spoke with us about the things you want. I don't want you to get hurt again... but I trust your judgment Melody." He finished. I smiled sadly at him and got up to hug him. He trusts me. After everything I put him through he trusts me. My heart feels warm and happy. He hugged me back just as tightly and kissed the top of my head. "I love you so much Melody. Please be careful." He whispered.

"I love you too dad. Thank you." I replied as we pulled away. I'm so thankful for him. I feel like another step was taken forward. Like I'm finally moving on.

Just then I received a notification from Chris saying that he's here and on his way up. I frowned. I thought I was meeting him downstairs.

"I'm going to go play basketball with Chris." I announced to my dad. He nods his head.

"Is he picking you up?" He asked, just then there was a knock on the door.

"Yea... he's here." I said as I go to open the door. Starting at me were white roses and a gift bag.

"Morning." Chris greeted me. I was speechless. He caressed my cheek. As I looked up at him I could see the bruises on his face that my brother left him. I grimaced and touched his cheek. "I'm alright." He said, already knowing what I was about to ask him.

"Good morning Chris." My dad greeted him causing me to snap out of my daze.

"Good morning, sir." Chris greeted back. I hated that he was being so formal again. I wish he'd still greet my dad by his name. They were so close to each other. My dad was his mentor once upon a time. I sigh. I know things won't be easy for us, especially for him. I'm not the only one who's going to be giving him a hard time.

"You can come in." I spoke. Just then Buddy came running from the living room, greeting Chris excitedly. He chuckled and handed me the roses and the gift bag. My dad sat back down to finish eating his breakfast.

"Hey Buddy." Chris greeted him as he bent down to pet him. I smiled, both happy and sad, of course they'd get along. Just like in my glimpse. He looked over at me, "open the gift bag." He instructed.

I placed the roses in a vase filled with water and I then opened up the gift bag. Inside there were snacks and toys for Buddy. I laughed.

"You got him a present?" I asked, touched by the gesture. That was thoughtful of him. He didn't have to do that.

"Of course." He said. I opened up one of the snacks and handed it to Chris so he could give it to Buddy. It was only right that he gives it to him since he gifted it.

"That dog is more spoiled than my grandkids." My dad said making us all laugh.

"Hey! Leave Buddy alone." I defended him. He came over to me next and I bent down to pick him and give him a kiss. "He's innocent and he's such a good boy." I started cooing to Buddy.
