"It's been nearly 6 years, Dad - " I argued, following my Dad into the kitchen.

"Nearly 6 years and I still haven't even come close to what I want the final product to be!" My Dad cuts me off mid-sentence and I roll my eyes, sighing loudly. My Dad turns around at the sound and gives me a stern look.

"I know its not quite how you want it but lets be honest, it's as ready as you're gonna get it!"

My Dad, Dr. Harrison Wells, "scientific genuis" apparently, has been working on this thing - The Particle Accelerator. It's supposed to power all of Central City with clean energy. My Dad first explained the idea to my Mom who thought he was kinda insane but liked the idea. The thing is, he's been working on this thing for years. Ever since my Mom died, he's either been avoiding the Accelerator altogether or having weeks where he works non-stop on it. He's basically done but he's not convinced it's ready to be launched.

"Evelina Wells! The Accelerator is not ready to launch and that's final." My Dad explodes and walks out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

"I bet Caitlyn and Cisco think it is!" I shout after him.

"Well, you see Dr. Wells, if we launch The Particle Accelerator, there's still a slight chance something could go wrong," Caitlin explains to my Dad as he leans against a pillar.

Cisco nods enthusicastically. "Yeah man, the whole thing could go BOOM and not in a good way..." he says.

"We are going to need to launch it soon," my Dad tells the two young employees. "If not now, when?"

"Woah, woah, woah, Mister. What made you change your tune? Two weeks ago I was the one trying to convince you to launch it, remember?" I smirked, raising an eyebrow.

My Dad smiled softly. "Evie, I named S.T.A.R Labs after your Mother. We were supposed to launch this thing together, whether we were old or young. She's not here anymore and I don't want to die without doing this."

I look at the ground at the mention of my Mother - Tess. She died in a car accident when I was very young. I don't remember much about her but I get flashes here and there. "You never talk about her," I mutter, looking back up at him.

Caitlin and Cisco are looking at the ground awkwardly, clearly not quite sure what to do.

"You should do it!" I hear a voice call from behind me.

Ronnie Raymond. Caitlin's fiancee.

He walks into the room and stands next to Caitlin, putting an arm around her shoulder. "I mean, I know I'm not much of a scientist or whatever but I know how much this thing means to you and if it's ready, I think you should launch it! I should know how it's going... Being the structural engineer and all!"

I look at my Dad and smile. "See? Ronnie knows what he's talking about. Do you think it's safe enough to launch?" I ask, turning to face the tall dark-haired man.

"Yeah, I mean there's always risks with launching anything involving particles but this seems good to go. The risks are very small although kinda dangerous if they do, ya know, occur."

"And the risks are?" I ask.

"Kaboom." Ronnie and Cisco say at the same time, looking over at each other when they realise.

"I think someone should let Central City know The Particle Accelerator is going to be launched next month," my Dad says with a big grin on his face.

A.N: I know Barry isn't in it yet but I promise he will be. I just wanted to get a background set up around what I imagined happened before the launch. The dates aren't exactly correct because trying to fit in having a child with Tess' death is quite hard! PLEASE DON'T HATE ME! I hope you enjoyed reading!
