Why had she thought of this?! She hated herself for thinking of this! Well, it would probably work, but still. Her stomach felt like it was gonna explode, and not the fun kind of explosion, either! And on top of that, she had to laugh, and smile, and act like she was having fun the whole time! Oh, and jumping from rooftop to rooftop was LOTS of fun, too!
Every now and then, she'd look behind her to make sure she wasn't getting TOO far ahead of Vi. If Vi couldn't see where she was going but was still running in the right direction, they'd know something was off. She threw back a couple jokes and some teasing sometimes to keep Vi riled up a little. That was sorta funny, but she really hoped they could get a good bit of ground on the other enforcers for a while. She needed a rest if she was gonna make it to the bridge, and hearing Vi calling her Jinx again... Well... It was... just weird.
After a while, she noticed Vi was the only person behind her she could hear. She took a look back. No enforcers. 'Bout time! She stopped at the edge of a rooftop with a fire escape, and started climbing down. "Powder, what are you doing?" said Vi following.
"I just... I-I need a break."
"We've gotta keep moving."
She sat down on the railing, she had to. "Just... Just for a minute. I..." She stopped, needing to cough a little.
A second later, she felt Vi's hand on her shoulder. "You okay?" She nodded. Vi took a breath. "Okay. But just for a minute." She smiled a little, then groaned and grabbed her stomach. Vi sighed. "I'm sorry things turned out like this. We could've... gotten you some better treatment."
"It's fine, it just..." She coughed hard.
"Powder!" She felt Vi's hand on her back. A minute passed, and the blood came up, landing on the floor of the fire escape. She took a second to catch her breath, then looked up at Vi. "I wish I'd known about this sooner..."
She cleared her throat as well as she could. "You... Y-you think I'm actually gonna die?"
Vi swallowed hard. "I hope not. At the very least, though... I know you'll give this thing one hell of a fight before that happens."
She did her best to smile, even though her throat was still hurting. "I don't... know how much longer I can, but... Well... guess I have a good reason to now, huh?" Vi gave a little smile and hugged her, then she looked down. "If I just... didn't decide to be... her..."
"It's okay. We just need to get you taken care of now."
She nodded, then started thinking back to that night again. She remembered the tea party, Silco and Vi both screaming, seeing Silco with the gun about to shoot... shoot Vi. He was... He was gonna... "H-he was gonna shoot you." She looked up at Vi. Vi looked at her. Before either of them could say anything else, though, she started to hear the other enforcers behind them again. She groaned. "And here we go again..."
"Come on, it's not that farther," said Vi. She nodded, then quickly climbed back up to the roof, and it was right back to the chasing act.
