The future just may end as promised.

"He's not here for you," Euphrates chanted, squeezing my arms, "he's not here for you." I scrambled off of him, sucking in a ragged breath as his cock yanked out of me.

"Then who the fuck is he here for?" I cried, dragging my skirt on. He watched from his seat, lust still darkening his eyes. "Stop looking at me like that! I'm not doing a damn thing with that... that monster standing out there!"

"Devani," Euphrates cooed, softening his voice, "I would never let that man anywhere near you if he was going to hurt you. I'll say it as many times as you need me to — he's not here for you."

With a disbelieving laugh, I yanked on my shirt and stuffed my feet into my shoes. Steadily, Euphrates watched me from the other side of the limo. He moved toward me, catching my hasty escape with an iron grip. His body pinned mine to the couch, blocking my exit.

"Lay back," he ordered.

I shook my head, fighting him. "No."

Euphrates lifted up, grasping my chin in one hand and dropping his second hand falling to my hip. "Lay back and spread them." He tightened the grip on my chin, squeezing. "I won't ask again." I did as he asked, relaxing against the seat and falling limp.

His hand slid down my leg to the hem of my skirt, ducking underneath. I whimpered when his fingers met my sensitive clit, but made no move to stop him. Hard green jewels glinted down at me as he delicately rubbed it. My mouth dropped open and my eyes rolled back, he held down my hips with his own when my back arched.

"There you go..." Shivering, I angled my head away to let his tongue slid down my pulse. "You didn't have time to finish..."

His mouth sealed to mine as I came, sucking and biting, to keep the scream lodged in my throat at bay. Spent, hot and bothered, my body relaxed beneath his on the leather seat. We stared at one another, daring the other to speak first.

"I promise that what you think is happening, is not what is happening." Euphrates pulled away and turned, opening the back door of the limo before stepping out into the rays of the rising sun. He popped his fingers in his mouth and licked them, holding his other hand out to me. "Come on, Devani. You trusted me before... why can't you trust me now?"

Grumbling under my breath, I forced myself to sit up and lean out of the car. We were at a private dock, two small motorized boats were tethered to it. Seagulls sat on the wooden planks, squawking and flapping their wings. The bluest water I had ever seen stretched out for kilometers, as far as the eye could see, leading out and away from the prison that I used to call home. My heart jolted in my chest, longing to touch it.

Euphrates' firm grip caught my hand when I stepped out, and he pulled me into his chest, tucking me against his side. I came face-to-face with a man I never wanted to see again. One, that in his absence, I had hoped had long forgotten about me.

"You are late." His dispassionate tone made me stiffen, but Euphrates smiled blandly and rubbed his hidden hand in soothing circles at the base of my spine. "I expected you hours ago."

"We took the scenic route."

He frowned at us, eyeing me. "I can see that." A slick grin cast across his handsome features. "And how are you, Devani? You're free from Carter and still in one piece. That gives me hope for you." I didn't respond, staring decidedly unimpressed in his direction. "You stare at me with such hatred, Devani. There is a thin line between the two... are you quite certain you love him and not me?"

Narrowing my eyes, I pushed closer to Euphrates. "I could never love a man like you."

"Hmm... pity..."
