Mia was sitting on the left side, sleeping on the armrest. Her sweater was in the space between her and Arlo. Arlo was on her left, sleeping up straight. And Elaine was on his left, laying on the other armrest with a blanket.

The ability dampener shot through the house. An armed-man teleported in. He walked toward Mia, holding up his knife. He stabbed it into Mia's side. Mia gasped. Her eyes shot open, activating her ability. Mia grabbed the man's wrist and started burning it. His grip on the knife loosened.

"Augh!"

Mia pulled the knife out using her other hand and threw it on the table. She pinned the man down on the floor, now breathing a bit more heavily.

"I-I don't know anything else! I answered everything I could!" Mia said.

She continued to burn his wrists. She shivered, remembering the way she was stabbed.

"Stop!" He yelled, waking up Arlo and Elaine.

"What's going on?" Arlo stood up from the couch and looked down at the assailant.

Mia gulped, ignoring the literal chill going up her spine, "He stabbed me."

"Stabbed?" Arlo looked at Mia. The blood started spreading into her white shirt, "I can handle him, get healed."

Mia let go of the man's wrists and Arlo grabbed him by the neck, somehow pushing him further into the floor. He put a barrier around them.

"Please, Elaine," Mia said.

"Don't move too much," Elaine said.

She activated her ability, but it didn't heal.

"I-I don't know why it's not working!" Elaine said.

What the hell? What's going on?

"It's fine. Don't worry," Mia said and tied her sweater over the wound.

I'll sear it if I really need too.

"What brings you here tonight?" Arlo asked.

Elaine looked at the bloody knife on the table. She picked it up to look closer at the design.

"That is the same knife Seraphina had with her! He may be one of the ones behind this!" Elaine said.

Some form of relief washed over Mia. At least they weren't here for her again.

"Is that so?" Arlo asked, "Then you've got some explaining to do."

John stomped into the living room, clicking the lights on, "Hey, you three better shut the fuck up! I'm trying to sleep here!" John said.

His eyes adjusted to the new brightness. Arlo was holding down a masked man, Mia was bloody and Elaine was holding the bloody knife.

"Uh... What the hell is going on here?"

"We found one of the assailants," Arlo said pulling him up by the collar.

"Wait, is there a window in your room?" Mia asked.

John shook lightly, confused why he couldn't sense Arlo's ability, "Huh? Yeah, why?"

"Don't leave Seraphina alone," Mia said. She got up from the floor, only to cough up blood.

What was in that knife?

"Mia!" Elaine said kneeling down to her level.
