Season 1 episode 1
We were going into the subway entrance with several students and their teacher, Ms.White for a field trip.
"The train to the museum of natural history should be here any...," Milo started
"41 seconds," Amanda said, cutting him off.
41 seconds from now, apparently. I'm really looking forward to seeing some paleontology, archaeology, all the "-ologies" really," Milo said
"Milo, you are an ology unto yourself.," Melissa said. Melissa walked onto the gate but saw that she forgot the student discount.
"Oh! Forgot my student discount," Melissa exclaimed. Amanda frowned, putting it in for her. "Thanks, Amanda!," Melissa said.
"Melissa, is there ever a time you haven't forgotten something?," Zack asked Melissa from behind.
"Yeah, February 30th or 31st, I forget," she said and kept walking.
"Neither of those are dates," I said walking after her. Milo started to walk after us but Bradley stepped in front of him. God I hated him.
"I'll be giving a tour... for anyone who's not going to be at the Milo show," he said, looking Milo up and down.
"Bradley, I don't have a performance planned," Milo chuckled oblivious to Bradleys bullying.
"Sure you say that now, but then one geyser comes through the floor and suddenly Milo's the center of attention," Bradley said walking onto the train car. I wanted to go after him and explain how I got it but I wasn't going to support my brother's bully. Milo walked after him but got stuck at the subway's entrance.
"Oops! I'm stuck," Milo exclaimed.
"Cue geyser," Bradley said, annoyed as the other students laughed and pointed at Milo. I rolled my eyes. Milo was a human being not some exhibit. But he was treated like one unlike me.
"Wow! Wow! Wow!," Milo said, trying to get out of the entrance.
"Interesting tidbit about the museum of natural history; it was formed...", Bradley said, trying to take the attention off Milo.
"Shhh. We're watching Milo in the turnstile. It's like he's on the circus subway," one student said, shushing Bradley.
"Wooow!," Milo said, still stuck.
"Should we wait for the next one?," Zack asked, mildly concerned.
"Nah, he's got it, in 3, 2, 1," I said counting down on my fingers as Milo finally stumbled out of the turnstile and hand walked into the car with us.
"This floor is a lot cleaner than I expected," Milo said, smiling and standing upright.
"Next stop: The museum of natural history," The subway announcer said over the speakers.
"So, this is the subway?," Zack asked looking around
"You've never been on it?," Melissa asked
"Nope," Zack said, frowning.
"Welp this is it, it's dark, dusty and full of weird smells," I said, smirking.
"Funnily enough that was their ad campaign last year," Milo said smiling. Melissa and Zack looked at us scarcely.
"Hey, uh... you guys ever hear about those mole people?," Melissa said trying to break the silence.
"No!," Zack said, freaked out.
"The urban legend?," Milo asked
"A subspecies of humanish creatures, roaming the tunnels, searching for pray," Melissa explained.
"Maybe we'll meet some," I said.
"I'd rather meet them above-ground," Zack said
"Then they wouldn't be mole people. They'd be...," Milo started
"...people," I finished for him. The train started shaking. Zack looked around fearfully.
"Does it usually do this?," He asked.
"Well, sometimes, when the coupling's loose," Milo explained. I looked out the window and confirmed Milo's theory.
"The coupling's loose? What does that even mean?," Zack asked us.
"I better put on my seatbelt," Milo said.
"Me too," I said, pulling mine out. The fact that I carried a seatbelt had always been strange. Sometimes I wished I didn't have to. But here Iwas clipping mine on.
"How is that going to work?," Melissa asked.
"Easy. You insert the tab into the buckle until you hear it click, like this," I explained as we buckled up our seatbelts. The train car then broke free from the rest of the train with a bump that sent Zack and Melissa to the floor.
"Wow! Oh, I get it now," Melissa said looking up at us.
"We would have had extras. But you know, the llama incident," Milo said. The loose coupling changed some points that diverted the runaway train car down a passage marked 'under construction'. It soon reached the surface where construction workers ran away screaming as the car came to a stop.
"Well, at least we're above ground. Heh heh heh," Zack said. I rolled my eyes, what an idiot. The ground gave way beneath the car and it fell down more tunnels, finally going off the track and crashing into a dark cave.
"And then to unbuckle it you press down this button," Milo explained as we took off our seatbelts. Zack ran over to the doors and pulled on them.
"Locked. How can these be locked? Does it usually do this?," Zack said, scared.
"Ugh! The windows don't open either," Melissa said, annoyed.
"What is the point of a window that doesn't open?," Zack asked.
"It provides work," Milo said
"For who?!," Zack half shouted.
"Window washers and glass installation professionals," I explained
"And the ceiling. Is there usually a ceiling?," Zack asked, banging on the roof. He then began to breathe deeply panicked.
"Zack, are you by chance claustro..," Melissa started.
"Not claustrophobic. Just claustro-avoidant. I avoid enclosed spaces when possible," Zack explained frowning.
"Probably not possible right now," I said looking around.
"It's better if I'm distracted," Zack said quietly.
"Okay, wait," Milo said and began tapping his shoes and playing the accordion. I pulled out my old timey fiddle and began playing it in sync with Milo.
"Not helping," Zack said.
"How about this...?," Milo asked as he and Melissa grabbed posters of various places in Paris from Milo's backpack and stuck them around the train car. I kept playing the fiddle as Milo started playing the concertina while wearing a beret.
"Now I'm distracted. Have you been carrying that the whole time?," Zack asked.
"We try to pack for any eventuality. Now let's see about getting those doors open. Ah, here we go," Milo said, taking out a key from his backpack.
"Okay, next time, key first, tap dancing later," Zack said. Milo opened the door and we exited the car.
"This is amazing," Melissa said looking around.
"Look, a fossil. 'Chicken wing. Circa 1993'," Milo said, holding up a chicken bone.
"See! Nothing can live under here. Not even chickens," Zack panicked.
"Could be worse," I told him.
"How?," Zack asked.
"Mysterious underground creatures?," Melissa said.
"Well I guess that would be worse," Zack said, agreeing with her.
"No. Mysterious underground creatures are coming towards us," Melissa clarified.
"Silver lining, things can live down here," Milo said.
"Someone hit the lights," One of the creatures said. One of them turned on a flashlight revealing the mysterious figures to be dirty construction workers with various Impromptu construction material made clothing items.
"Huh. I'll be honest, I'm a little disappointed," Melissa said, frowning.
"Young people from the over land. You shall be our leaders," One of them exclaimed.
"No no. We have a leader, Scott. It's Dave," the other one said.
"Sup," Dave said.
"It's a democratic hierarchical society," the foreman explained.
"Wait a minute, who are you guys?," Milo said
"We live below. They call us... 'The Belownies'," Scott said.
"No they don't Scott. We voted on this. 'Belownies' sounds like lunch meat. We're called the Undergrounders," The foreman said
"I am the wise healer among my peoples," Scott said.
"He's a pipe fitter," the foreman explained.
"Where are we?," Milo asked.
"We call our world "Subterraneus"...terranus... terranus," Scott said all echoey. The four of us looked over at the foreman.
"That one's true. He just wanted it so badly," He explained.
"I wore them down," Scott said happily.
"So, where are you kids headed?," The foreman asked as he led us down to Subtranuess.
"Class trip to the museum. I helped organize it," Milo said. God he always got all the attention.
"He shall be our leader," Scott cut in.
"How long have you been down here?," Zack asked, looking around.
"Since... 'the before times'," Scott said.
"Uh, about a month, actually. We were building an extension on this line, but we got lost so we figured we'd better establish a new civilization," the foreman explained.
"Wow. You established a new civilization in a month?," I asked them.
"You'd be surprised how much you can get done when you're not constantly setting up and moving orange cones," the foreman said.
"I shall be the leader!," Scott said.
"Seriously, Scott?," the foreman asked, slapping Scotts flashlight away. We reached where the Undergrounders were living.
"So you've got agriculture, art, rudimentary government...," Milo said
"Liquorice somehow. You're actually going to eat that?," I asked looking over at Zack.
"I'm trying to distract myself from the walls moving in on us. I wonder what part of the chicken this is," Zack explained.
"The rat part," Melissa said, smirking.
"Granola bars?," Milo asked, pulling them out of his backpack. Always the hero. I stood and didn't take one. Milo didn't offer.
"He bears the sweet mana of the overland," Scott said, gasping.
"Oh, no thanks. I just had some... chicken and... kinda lost my appetite," the foreman said. Diogee came in and walked up to Milo, and me.
"Diogee? What are you doing here?," I asked
"Please be rescuing us," Zack said.
"The floppy-eared one shall be our leader," Scott said, bending down to lift up Diogees' ears.
"Aren't you allergic to dogs?," the foreman asked, reminding Scott.
"Oooh. Right. You know what? Yeah, yeah. I actually am," Scott said, reverting back to his normal voice.
"Wait, Diogee, our leader," Milo exclaimed.
"We are not starting our own civilization," Melissa said looking over at Dave who was flipping burgers on a barbecue made out of a toilet.
"They taste worse than they smell," Dave said.
"Diogee always knows the way home," Milo explained.
"Diogee, go home!," I shouted and we ran after the dog. The Undergrounders cheered as they followed us and Diogee.
"I enjoy running," Scott said. Melissa tripped and then she, Milo and me(unfortunately) got trapped under the falling rubble.
"No! Melissa. Milo, Mila! Are you guys okay?," Zack called to us. Could me and Milo ever just have a normal day?
"Yeah we're okay," I said
"If you call being buried alive okay," Melissa said
"I see light past this one rock. Maybe if we can move...," Milo said, trying to move the rock. "Nope. No, it won't budge. Don't worry. I've got my backpack right...," Milo began but a rock crushed Milo's backpack.
"Don't worry," I said and started reaching for my satchel which also got crushed by another rock.
"What was that?," Zack asked
"Hmmmm. Well okay. Maybe you can worry a little bit," Milo said.
"Okay, here's the plan. Someone needs to crawl through and jimmy out that rock from the front," I said looking around.
"I don't think any of us can fit," the foreman said.
"I can fit... I think," Zack gulped.
"But Zack, you're claustro-avoident. Are you sure you want to do this?," Melissa asked.
"No. I'm sure I don't want to do it. But you guys need me," Zack said.
"Is there another flash light in there?," Zack asked as he climbed inside.
"My backup backup got crushed," Milo explained.
"So did my satchel", I said. But no one appeared to care.
"I can barely see," Zack said.
"Not much to see. Just kind of a tiny enclosed suffocating... you know what? Never mind," Melissa told Zack.
"You can do this. Think of how you faced down wolves and survived an alien abduction. And that's just since we've met. I'm sure you did lots of stuff before that," Milo said ignoring how weird our lives were.
"Nope. Never did anything. What if this rock is all that's holding this up?," Zack asked.
"Don't worry. I'm sure it'll work," Milo said optimistically.
"How do you know?," Zack asked
"Because it has so far," Milo said
"Relatively speaking," I added.
"Okay, on three. One. Two. Three," Zack said, pulling the rock causing the rock to fall away, freeing us.
"It's clear!," Melissa said
"Yeah!," me and Milo shouted.
"See, I told you it would hold," Milo said as rocks collapsed and crushed the place we had been trapped in.
"Well it held long enough," I said
"You totally saved us," Melissa told Zack.
"He shall be our leader," Scott said.
"Yeah. He shall," Milo said.
"Thanks guys", Zack said smiling.
"I am impressed, kid. I would've just let them start a new society in there," the foreman said.
"Hey, where's Diogee?," Melissa asked. The wall collapsed to reveal Diogee in an old train car.
"Diogee!," we all shouted while getting on the train car. We drove the train car down the track.
"You know, we have no idea where these tracks go," the foreman said.
"I'm sure it'll all work out," Milo said.
"You're sure...," the foreman said
"He uses that term loosely," I explained. We saw a point lever which was currently leading us towards a section of track that abruptly ended over a drop.
"Oh. I got this," Milo said, grabbing the lever but it broke off
"Or not," I said, frowning. The car flew off the track with everyone screaming but landed safely on another track with a thud.
"Oh. we survived," Melissa said.
"Ooh,Maybe not," the foreman said, looking around. The train car then proceeded to crash through a dead end sign and into the museum. The train car smashed through the wall and a dinosaur skeleton fell on Bradley.
"Nope. It was an eight. Hmhm. Milo, tell us about your adventure," Ms.White said smiling. So not our adventure? Huh. Guess I wasn't as important as Milo.
"A-a-and we're back," Bradley said, annoyed.
"What will you guys do now?," Milo asked the Undergrounders
"There is no place in your world for us now," Scott said
"Then you can stay Scott. Me? I'm going to go check my DVR. I've got a month of The Doctor Zone Files to catch up on," the foreman said frowning.
"Oo, That means you missed it when the Trashcandroids...," Milo said.
"No spoilers," the foreman said. The Undergrounders bid farewell and left.
"I shall return to "Subterraneus''...terranus...terranus. And you will be my leader," Scott said, painting towards Bradley.
"Oh sorry, I'm trapped in a rib cage right now. Interesting tidbit, stegosaurus ribs are...," Bradley started saying.
"Never mind," Scott said, cutting him off. Scott ran back into the tunnel, laughing.
"He saw something in me", Bradley said.
"Whatever he saw he also saw in a dog," I teased
"'The floppy-eared one will be our leader'," Zack said bending down to hold Diogees ears up.(No authors note today)
