Sophia POV
The sound of my alarm has me smiling before I open my eyes, I stretch kicking off the covers quickly so my skin can be brushed by the cool breeze drifting throughout my room from outside.
There's something about the early morning starts even after all these years still excites me. Turning off my alarm I spring out of bed and make my way to the bathroom to brush my teeth.
Waving my hand as my brush starts brushing my hair, I set my hair up in a tight bun spraying some hairspray to comb back any loose strands.
I slip on the honey badgers bakery white button up shirt with a golden badger on the back holding a Cupcake with pink frosting. Accompanied with black stockings, my sexy pink crocs and a black a-line skirt with my shirt tucked in.
Winking at myself in the mirror as I toss on my overcoat and grab my keys, locking the front door jumping down the stairs two at a time.
Friday, a great day. The day before chaos, I mean I can finish decorating some wedding cakes today and hopefully there's no late additional changes for tomorrow.
By the time it's 6am the bakery is in full swing, I have 8 different cupcake flavours baked and currently being frosted by a floating piping bag, 3 different croissants are rolling themselves and are resting ready to be freshly baked on trays. Other fresh treats and slices are already stocking themselves in the storefront while the lights are off.
Fresh loaves of bread have just pulled themselves out of the large ovens towards the back of the kitchen and are rested on the bench top. As bread rolls that were previously resting in their now taken up position are wisping around in the air settling in large rattan rectangular baskets sorting themselves.
I however, as ladylike as it may seem I am squatting on a stool my tongue is sticking out as I lean over a wedding cake with frosted pink roses delicately placing them on the cake. I could use magic but this is so much more rewarding, a car rolling into the parking lot helps me know that Tessa is here.
Casting a look around the room dispelling everything that isn't normally suppose to be doing what it's doing, the piping bags slowly lay on the counter near the cupcakes neatly, I make the the first layer of croissants load themselves into the oven quickly closing the door as I hear rattling keys getting closer.
Swiveling back around I grab a piping bag full of green frosting.
"You better not be on that stool, I swear Soph it's so dangerous and one day you're going to fall into a cake," she's shouting from outside as she walks from her car Tessa unlocks the door, "god damnit Soph."
I giggle as I place the final rose squealing, "it's finished, another one to put into the freezer," scrambling off the stool I slowly walk over to Tessa with my arms open as I see dread in her eyes.
"And I do believe a good morning boss is in order," I step closer to her as Tessa steps away putting her things in her locker not turning her back on me.
"Don't you dare cuddle me with all of that powdered sugar on you," she huffs grabbing her apron securing it on her waist.
I lunge at her for a hug as she flails her arms and groans unappreciatively, "maybe next time don't call me out, I haven't ruined a cake yet," releasing her she rolls her eyes looking around the room.
"Yes boss," she sighs walking around, "how do you always get so much done?"
"Magic, I guess," I smile widely at her as I follow her to the front of the shop turning on the lights.
Ignoring me she continues to look in the cabinets, I was so lucky to hire Tessa. She's a hard worker she comes in and gets shit done and leaves, what else could a manager want?
"What's our special today?" She looks up at me as she cleans the blackboard for the storefront. "I was thinking coffee and cake?" She nods as she goes to designing a cool 'coffee & cake' sign, she's studying an Art Major at a nearby university.
Smiling I go back delicately putting the finished wedding cake back into the fridge, I grab out a banana caramel cake for the special and start to cut it up.
The rest of the day goes smoothly, I help a few times in the front of the store making some coffees and talking to some of the usuals. I am able to decorate 2 more wedding cakes for pick up tomorrow morning. In the afternoon I am putting the last cake back into the fridge when my phone buzzes across the room ending as I slide the cake into place.
If it's urgent they will call back, as it was on cue the phone in the front of the store starts to ring.
"Boss? It's for you," Tessa shouts from the front, skipping across the kitchen I slide through the door as she hands me the phone.
"The Honey Badger Bakery, may all your baked goods be sweet ones, Sophia speaking," I smile leaning against the door way to the kitchen.
"Sophia, you better be coming tomorrow night!" Ahh shit, Annabelle's Bachelorette party, I hum enthusiastically, "of course I wouldn't miss it!"
"You forgot didn't you?" She's such a Ravenclaw, "alright Annabelle I forgot but you reminded me so you better believe I will be there."
"You better."
"I said I would Annabelle, look I'm setting an alarm in my phone for it now," I put it into my phone, "where is it again?"
She pauses, for too long she's... calculating her response, "The Tinkerers Slap."
I roll my eyes turning back into the kitchen, nightclubs aren't really my thing anymore. But I already forgot that it was happening, "great," I try to sound enthusiastic, as she squeals on the other end in excitement. Nailed it.
"The theme is 'Sexy Vixens'." Her thick Scottish accent accentuating 'Sexy' has me giggling. What is 'sexy vixens' even meant to mean?
"Uh huh, yeah sure, so just come in something sexy?" I look down at my crocs clicking them together.
"Absolutely, alright I will see you for pre-drinks at mine tomorrow evening?"
"Yep I will try to make it, if not I'll meet you at the club," she squeals in excitement again.
"Okay I'll see you then, please don't forget!" I reassure her I won't forget and hang up the phone.
Ironic...
I shouldn't have forgotten.
