I almost feel guilty for calling in some favors to find out where she had interviews at and strongly encouraging them to pursue other equally qualified candidates. Seeing her this morning at the coffee shop only fueled my insistence to have her work for me.
Our little interaction invigorated me in the way a cup of coffee could never. Maybe it was the challenge or the or my need to get my way, but whatever it is I'm gonna get my way. I put my thoughts of Arden to the side as I mentally prepare myself for today.
I'm smiling up until I run into Payten. Seeing his face only serves to spoil my coffee and piss me off especially when I remember how he hit on Arden. He's a smart, ambitious kid but god if he wasn't annoying. He lacked work ethic, wanted everything handed to him and I wouldn't allow it to happen at this firm.
"Hey boss," He greets me as I exit the elevator. He must have been waiting for me to arrive, usually already at work.
"What do you need Payten," I grumble upset he interrupted my morning silence.
"Just wanted to check in before the presentation today," he stammers then begins babbling about menial details.
"No one likes a kiss ass Payten," I grumble pushing past him. He's such a brownnoser.
I go to my office to prepare for my meetings. The temp hands me my itinerary and messages then I'm off to brood in my cave.
After prepping for the days meetings, my curiosity got the best of me. I decided to check our HR email to see if Arden had responded. She hadn't. It might be time to bring in the big guns. Arden could resist me, but could she resist her sister?
The thought rolls through my mind for a bit before its interrupted by the reminder of my 10 am appointment.
Dealing with a high-profile divorce case was first on the list. We are representing Tobias Boaz; he was the richest man in town. He had more money than God, a wondering eye, and scorned wife. So, he needed a lawyer. And we weren't going to turn down his business. I decided to give the case to Payten. Hopefully, Payten would prove me wrong and not mess it up. His job was depending on this.
Time to get to work.
