Arden
I burst through the door of my apartment throwing my purse and jacket down heading straight to my computer. I log into my email and immediately see the offer letter from a law firm.
Opening the email, once again, I see the offer is generous. So generous in fact that I had to pause for a minute and reconsider my earlier thoughts. I could afford a house in a year with an offer this generous. I was frozen staring at the number on the screen. It forced me to be honest with myself.
Do you need this job? Yes
Will your boss be an insanely hot asshole? Yes
Did your life need an upgrade? Yes
Will you regret not taking this job? Yes
Admitting this to myself made me sour at my only option. I had to write an acceptance email and buy more work appropriate clothes. And lastly (this fact made me the saddest of all), I had to rethink rage writing. I had to make a call.
"Hello," Aria sing-songs picking up my FaceTime.
"What's got you turned into Happy Hannah," I grumble
"Vitamin D," I see her smile through the phone, "And by that, I mean dick or Daniel if you prefer to know his name."
"Oh, that's sick," I cringe, "I do not need to know that!"
"Shut up," she giggles.
"You're giggling now," I question. This girl has never giggled in her life!
"What, I giggle sometimes," she huffs then changes the subject," Anyways, why'd you call."
"I think I'm going to take that job your boss offered me," I say hesitantly
"Finally! Dear God woman you need that job," She says launching into a rant about how stubborn I am.
"Are you done, bitch?" I interrupt her slightly annoyed.
"I wasn't but I guess I'll stop now," she responds with caution.
"You guessed right," I sass.
"So, when do you start?"
"I haven't sent an acceptance email yet," I explain, "I called you, so you'd talk me out of rage writing that asshole."
"Wait start from the beginning," she grumbles.
"Your boss, Sebastian Keen, is rather infuriating," I inform her.
"He seems rather fond of you and your attitude issues, as he called them," Aria informs me.
"So you've been consorting with the enemy?" I ask surprised.
"Don't be so dramatic. He's not your enemy although he might be if you start working for him. His last personal assistant had a mental breakdown then went and vandalized his car," my sister says.
"Wait," I interrupt her, "what you mean personal assistant? I'm going to be working closely with him?"
"Girl, did he not tell you the job was for a personal legal assistant," she says sarcastically.
"Uh no," my words delivering the same energy as hers, "And what the hell do I know about being a damn legal assistant?"
"It's easy once you get the hang of it. Just be careful. He can dish a lot of shit," Aria warns.
"Well he's not the only one who can dish it," I sass back.
"Yea but you don't do so well taking it," Aria reminds me.
"I can take it," I reassure her.
"And please no rage writing. Try to at least keep it professional until I'm out of the country," she pleads.
"I solemnly swear to be a good girl," I mock in a terrible British accent.
"So convincing," my sister sing-songs.
"Love you, Ria," I tell her deading the conversation.
"Love you too, Denny," She replies before hanging up. I think about our talk and consider her warning about Sebastian. I decide this offer is too good to pass on. I formulate the email about three times before pressing send.
I guess I'm willing to play with fire after all.
