The steady rhythm of the rain drops against the window of her room along with a dream consisting of sugary pancakes topped with chocolate syrup lulled Shona to sleep.

Badi badi aankhen aur mu-  *thuddd*

She wakes up by discarding her fluffy plush blanket and kept her Human sized teddy bear next to her after cuddling with it for some minutes. Nights without this soft toy Oreo would have been impossible for the little baby. Wearing the unicorm flippers, she moved towards the big window only to squeal and feel mushy after finding the weather to be of her liking.

There was a knock on the door and soon opened the door revealing her beautiful mother with a cup of chai. (Sapne!)

Uth ja maharani! Kabki subha hogayi hai.
Her mother huffed and groaned seeing her daughter in her night clothes even after informing how they were expecting guests.

Freshen up beta! Dhriti aunty will be here any moment and it won't look good if my lovely daughter wouldn't wish her na? Chalo go.

Mamaa! Who is Dhriti aunty? Why do I have to wish her? It's Sunday and papa has promised to take us out on a brunch and dinner outing today na? are the questions fired by naïve Shona towards her mother who kept gaping at the validity of those queries.

Sawal jawaab mein chala gaya adha ganta. Fresh hokar neeche aaja bacha and yes we are going out but after meeting your aunty. She has a problem and only you can solve it for her was the last thing she heard before starting the shower.

Shivin beta!

Shivinnn!

Oye khotta! Gaal sunega ke bolu tere pyo naal?

He stops surfing the news article regarding the recent inflationary measures taken by the Monetary Policy Committee and stands his coffee mug on the table only to find his mother frowning at him and is about to open her mouth regarding mar-

When will you get married? I and your father are not getting younger. Tu sun raha hai? 28 saal ka hogaya hai.

-riage.

I shrug and resume my coffee while changing the news article from economy to those of politics only to find a communal riot in the nearby area. Completing my plate of omelette and toast, I carry my files along with laptop bag only after giving my mother a curt nod by addressing about my dispersal.
My indifferent behaviour regarding this topic made her boil with anger and here she resumes-

Oh laat sahab! Mene ladki chun li hai. Haaye! Kinni sonni kudi hai woh. Ab toh wohi tujhe set karegi. Ruk Tu. was the last threat that I heard after sprinting till the main door.

I grind my teeth in boiling anger and drive to my office. I have informed and asserted about not being interested in any girl and especially in marriage and yet my parents are hell bound to get me hitched. I don't want a weakness.

GOSH! The thought in itself is repulsing. I can't imagine my life like that. I ain't getting married.
Period.

Adorned in a beautiful white cotton salwar paired with a toppled jacket along with a dupatta while sitting on the plush Ottoman, blow drying her hair locks, Shona's mind stroll straight to her priorities.
