Excitement is something that has always been running deep in my mother’s veins but what she is doing at the moment can be considered as madness. She is so eager to get me married, that in a single day she has completed all the pre wedding ceremonies. During the sangeet ceremony I saw the face of my madam ji while she danced and i was awestruck again.

She is otherworldly. A nymph. Innocence studded with naive virility. A bewitching face, doe like eyes, proud button nose, heart shaped lips with hair like brown waterfall. She's no less than a siren.

Calm down Shivin! You have whole life to describe her.

I am wearing a creamish coloured sherwani with golden detailing on it paired with red pagdi, mogra lined sehra and khandani khanjar. How I wish to stab mysel-

You look so handsome beta ji! I feel as if it’s a dream. My son is getting married finally! Chirped mom. After checking myself for the last time in mirror, I pacified my mother who had tears in her eyes. I even found my dad sniffing and grabbed me in a hug. Dad and me consoled mom that she would look very scary with smudged makeup and it worked in getting her mad. Haha.

We reached the marriage venue with Gajja Baja Barat in the most glamorous manner. I was escorted to the mandap while the pandit chanted hymns. The bride was soon asked for presence while I kept gazing the holy fire.

The same jingling sound of anklets made me turn my eyes and to be honest I was stunned. My bride looked exactly like her name. Shona. Dressed in a golden lehenga like a princess belonging to a regal kingdom she walked towards me and Time stopped for me. Seeing her once was a gift and also a curse since now all i wish is to stare her once again. I blame it on the marriage shenanigans.

She took her place next to me and my mother added an embroidered red dupatta on her. We were asked to put our hands together for Hastha ganthi. The priest tied a knot by keeping the bride’s palm on mine and proclaimed that from now onwards, the bride considers herself as a member of her husband’s family to which Shona nodded meekly. Hah! Welcome dear Welcome.

After some more rituals, parents for Kanyadaan were asked that was followed by jaymala. It was time to fill her head with vermilion. Her mother pushed the heavy veil aside for my easy access. I was able to see her pink heart shaped lips as she had her head in a bowed position. Shesh! Still can’t see the face. Focus Shivin.

By using a coin, I filled her hairline with vermilion and tied the mangalsutra around her neck. We took saat phere and
Finally the priest announced us as husband and wife. We took the blessings of our parents. I found my wife whispering to her mother about how she is thirsty and would probably die like a fish. I would love me some fish curr- STOP.

Her mother nodded her head and politely asked the waiter for a glass of juice.

Son will you also drink juice? She asked.
