It was your first year at Hogwarts, and to say you were nervous was an understatement. Sure, your parents had both allowed you to grow up surrounded by magic and hearing stories of the famous school, but nothing could prepare you for the anxiety of standing on platform 9 ¾ awaiting to board the train. Your mothers hand squeezed your shoulder, bringing your attention back to her as opposed to the mass crowds ahead of you. When your eyes meet hers, they're the size of saucers and she gives you a gentle smile.

'You're going to be fine Y/N' she coos, stroking a hand through your hair lovingly. Your father kneels down in front of you, smiling proudly.

'You write to us as soon as you're settled in, okay?' you can only nod in response to his question.

'And make sure you don't forget to feed Boots' your mother chimed in as the last call for boarding rang through the platform. She was of course referring to your pure white Meine Coone. He was all attitude and half the time, you weren't even sure if he liked you. But he was your pet and he would be the only one you knew on this journey to starting a new chapter of your life.

The final goodbyes were, of course, emotional. Your mother was tearful, your father was the one to hold you both close when you had your final family hug. It had been drawn out for as long as possible before you absolutely had to leave them. Getting on to the train and trudging through each carriage, hoping to find an empty one.

Just as you came across one and went to pull open the door, a nasally voice called from behind you 'This is ours'. You spun round on the spot, coming face to face with a boy who looked to be about the same age as you. His hair was almost ice white and combed back over his scalp and you couldn't help but smirk at him. For some reason, his hairstyle amused you and you were trying desperately not to laugh out loud – you had promised your parents that you wouldn't cause any trouble.

'What? This?' you asked innocently as you stepped into the empty space, taking a seat next to the window and looking back at the blonde boy who had followed you. You knew many people like him, and unfortunately, as nervous as you were, you weren't above being brutally obnoxious to prove a point. He almost snarled at you when he spoke next.

'I said this is ours' he spat, you looked around the room exaggeratedly, shrugging when you met his eyes again.

'I don't see your name anywhere' and with a final shrug of your shoulders, you leaned back in the seat and began looking out of the window as the train rolled forward. The boy gave an aggravated sigh.

'Do you even know who I am?' he asked, his tone portraying what he obviously thought was power, however you found him to sound self obsessed. You quirked a brow.

'Should I?' you made sure your tone expressed how bored you were, taking great pleasure at the way his eyebrows rose and his face went red in anger.

'I am Draco Malfoy. My father works for the ministry. He's very important'

You smile.

'Nice to meet you Draco Malfoy. I'm Y/N. Y/N L/N. Would you like to sit in this carriage with me?' you ask, stubborn as your father always said you were.

Draco squints at you. He shakes his head in astonishment.

'Did you not hear me?' his voice is calmer now, but still surprised.

'Yes, of course' you reply, frowning slightly before rolling your eyes.

'Perhaps, if for just a second, you could remove your abnormally large head from being lodged up your behind, you'd realise that I am not moving. This is the only empty space in the whole train. And I refuse to leave. And I assume, you do too. So just sit down for goodness sake. We don't even have to talk the whole way there if you don't want to' you finish with a sigh, looking back out of the window.
