"Ava, what is it? What is happening? Ava, talk to me!"
Ava turned to Bea, white with terror.
"They're coming, Bea... they're coming for me."
"They who, Ava? Weren't you having a nightmare?"
"No. It wasn't a nightmare... I felt it. I feel they are coming! I feel!" Ava jumped out of bed in panic. "You need to get out of here, Bea, they're going to run over everyone to get me. You need to get out of here, protect yourself."
Beatrice got out of bed and walked over to Ava. She put her hands on Ava's arms and made her look into her eyes.
"I'm not going anywhere. Nothing or no one is going to take you away from me again, got it? Not anyone!"
Ava let herself be hugged by Beatrice. She was afraid of what could happen when all those tarascs she felt came after her, but she felt comforted by Bea.
"We need to wake everyone up and let them know, I can't allow them to be taken by surprise. I don't even want to think about what could happen. Come on, let's warn everyone..." Ava shivered from head to toe. "They're very close, Bea... they're coming."
Ava opened the bedroom door leading Beatrice by the hand. As soon as she opened the door, Lilith came running towards her.
"Did you feel it too?" Ava asked.
"I did... and there are many, I didn't think it would be like this. That's why they took so long to come. We have to warn everyone, leaving the halls, it's a very tight space, it could give us a big disadvantage."
Beatrice listened attentively and nodded. If there were several tarascs, the ideal thing is that they had space to move around, to defend themselves. The three left, knocking on doors and raising the sisters, warning of the imminent danger and leaving everyone prepared.
They tried to get out of the tight spaces, they didn't know where and when exactly the tarascs would appear. By consensus, they decided that they would all go out into the courtyard, but they didn't have time to leave the convent. Small portals began to open in the convent's great hall, around the group of sisters. All were armed and on guard, with the weapons they handled best, all equipped with divinium to be able to defeat those demons.
Ava was shaking. She was more afraid for her friends than for herself, because she knew that her life would not be taken by the demons. She was afraid for Beatrice. They came after her, yes, but to get her to the other side alive.
Gradually the tarascs began to materialize. One. Two. Five. Ten. Ava lost count after the fifteenth. She had never seen so many together and it terrified her. But she couldn't let those demons take her or hurt anyone. She took a deep breath and jumped very high with her sword, wounding the first tarasc in the side, causing it to immediately turn around to try a counterattack, but Ava rolled to the ground and cut the next tarasc's leg.
All the sisters started their attacks then. The tarascs only targeted Ava, which left them more open to the sisters' attacks, but the demons fought back and the dodging moves taught by Beatrice in training were widely used. And they were essential. Being bigger, the monsters' movements were slower than the sisters, who were in the best of their forms. The hall was a war zone, full-blown chaos. The tarascs broke all the surroundings in strong and uncoordinated movements in an attempt to reach the sisters, who skillfully managed to undermine the opponents and divert them from the direction of Ava, who was always the one who liquidated the monsters with the divinium sword, running through all of them.
Lilith played her role by flying over the demons, attacking them fiercely and drawing attention in another direction. With the tips of her wings very sharp, she managed to cut off some arms and legs, wounding the tarascs more bluntly than any of her sisters. Lilith's skill was impressive, as was Ava's. So many years of fighting and running from demons on the other side have made the two of them become relentless warriors.
