"Where are we?" I look around at the world around me, it seems different, more futuristic. I notice I'm on top of a building and I look down on the city below me. Cars like I have not seen before, more lights and pixilated signs. I feel out of place, awkward. I look to Miguel for guidance.
"Earth 616, where that bastard seemed to have fled." Miguel begins to walk towards the end of the building.
"Wait!" I stop him. Miguel scoffs and slowly turns around to face me.
"Make it quick." He motions with his hands as if to say 'hurry up.'
I open my mouth to speak but before I can I hear a laughter in the distance. "Aha! Miguel!" The Spider-Man lands right the space between me and Miguel.
"Peter." Miguel places a hand on his face. "Where the hell is the villain?"
The masked Peter lets out a nervous chuckle. "You see it was the funniest thing! Right as I was about to land a hit on the guy, he glitched out and totally left this universe!" Peter rubs the back of his neck.
"Son of a bitch, Peter." Miguel whispers, just loud enough for both me and Peter to hear.
"Now what?" I speak and Peter flips his head around to see me. Peter crosses his arms and laughs.
"Who's this, Miguel?" Peter walks closer toward me and closely examines my suit.
"My name is Petra." I hold out my hand for him to shake, and he does. "I'm Spider-Woman."
"You know, it would be nice to have some more Spider-Women around." Peter puffs out his chest.
"Peter!" Peter jumps at the sound of Miguel's booming voice. "We don't have the time for this." Miguel moves himself next to Peter, they're both way to close for comfort. I back up a few inches from them as the turn to each other.
"I believe we do actually have time for this." Peter says to Miguel.
"No we don't. Are you an idiot or something? There is a villain on the loose." Miguel places his hands on his teeny tiny waist.
"Not our problem anymore." Peter shrugs and looks to me for approval, I shrug my shoulders at him, not having really any opinion on this situation.
"Not our problem?! NOT OUR PROBLEM?!" Miguel is furious. "He is an enemy of the multiverse itself!"
"Listen, there's no use in chasing after the guy, someone is going to catch him eventually." Peter explains. Miguel shakes his head and turns his body away from us both.
"And if they don't?" Miguel states.
"The guy can't run forever! He's a coward. Listen, right now we have no idea how we're going to catch him. I say we don't run into the fight blindfolded. We should have a plan first and then track him down... you know, if someone hasn't caught him by then." Peter looks down to the ground and sighs.
"Unbelievable." Miguel growls. I want to say how I agree with Peter, but God knows how Miguel will react. He might even send me home.
"What do you think, Petra?" Peter turns to me. I feel my face heat up in nervousness under my mask.
"Oh- Well, I-"
"Yeah, Petra." Miguel cuts me off, walking closer to me, almost towering over me. "What do you think?" He looks down to me and I just about cower in fear. But I can't cower in fear, I'm Spider-Woman. I stand up taller, preparing myself to disagree with Miguel.
"I agree with Peter." I squint my eyes. I hear a laugh, Peter's laugh.
"See! I told you!" He pats Miguel on the back, as Miguel stands frozen, eyes fixated on me. Miguel stares at me for a few more moments before finally backing away. I don't even realize I had been holding my breath until I exhale.
