This chapter is the fabulous 'Cleaning Scene'

It's been about two weeks in the Survey Corps, and I missed about seven "Titan Killing Spree's". I felt pretty left out, but a different person stayed with me while everyone left. It was thoughtful of them to volunteer, because some of them weren't even my friends. About two days ago, Bertholdt volunteered to stay with me, and since he's such a sweetheart to me I didn't bother to tell him that it's fine if he left, because I don't want him to die out there. I was protecting him mentally, but he never knew that. He's like a brother to me.

Currently, everyone was standing in front of their open-doored dorms and was in soldier position. Commander Erwin, Hanji and Corporal Levi were at the head of the hall, observing us just a step in front of our rooms.

"Today, my apprentices, is cleaning day. We put supplies next to your door already and equipment as well. Obviously, you're supposed to be cleaning your room," he stated, while walking slowly up the hallway. He walked back and let Corporal Rivaille walk slowly. While he talked, his face was straight, and unpleased-looking. He glared at each one of us, with his hands behind his back, looking straight ahead at some points.

"I want these things listed cleaned: the floors, walls, bed, furniture, mattress, windows, balconies,—if you have one—curtains, corners of the floor, corners of the ceiling, the ceiling, your room accessories, interior in the dressers and drawers, the carpet, the ceiling fan, pillow, and any personal items that can/must be cleaned. I want everything SPOTLESS. You certainly have to dust, vacuum, sweep and spray with rags and sprays. Do not play smart with me and just clean everything but leave your room a total mess. You're ALSO required to organize things, such as your clothes in your dresser. Your things on the ground, putting things neatly away. For example, I don't want to walk into your room and I can't even see the ground. I also don't want your curtains flying everywhere. Turn your fan on. Make your bed, fluff your pillows, and don't leave your shirts, uniforms, sweaters or jackets on the ground of your closet. Put them neatly on hangers. You are also required to use disinfectant wipes to clean doorknobs, table tops and jewelry. Also—"

The list went on and on, and I was just there, suffering and trying to balance myself the whole time and trying to pay attention. After about ten minutes of explaining, we were dismissed to our cleaning duties. I picked up the huge bucket of supplies and crutched toward the inside of my room. The big utilities were there already, like a vacuum and a broom. I realized that I couldn't clean. I had to though, or Corporal will be pissed. Real pissed. That damn clean freak. I walked up to one wall, which was covered with pictures. I took them down and stacked them on my bed. I took off my crutches and lay them beside my bed. I tried to bend my knees. I couldn't. I went down, butt first, and dragged the bucket of supplies toward me. I reviewed the steps of cleaning in my head for the walls. Dust, wash, done. I didn't want to do it from sections of the wall, but you know what? I had too.

For the last thirteen minutes, I cleaned about 2/8ths of one wall. It was pretty clean to me, not dusty, just one solid wood-color with nothing between the smooth cracks. I heard footsteps outside the opening of my dorm, and I saw from the corner of my eye it was just the lead people inspecting. We have the whole day to clean, and I wasn't even 2/3rds done with my room. And it was tiny, too! Well, fit enough for one person. Plus, I have another step for cleaning. The balcony... great. I opened the slide door and secured my curtains so they wouldn't flail everywhere. It was a little windy, and it made the warm air circle around mixed with cool air.

About thirty minutes into cleaning, I heard footsteps again, and directly behind me.

"You clearly need some help. I'm sorry I didn't come earlier," he said. It was Corporal, and I felt belonged or something that he was here, and that someone (especially the Corporal) to finally help me with cleaning.
