Ch. 27

Xingqiu had always been worried Chongyun didn't feel the same way as him.

Their entire lives, Xingqiu knew that he felt very highly about his best friend - even when he did just consider him his best friend.

He always worried that, despite the fact that Chongyun was his dearest companion of many years, he would never feel so strongly and as deeply about Xingqiu as he did to him.

So when his eyes opened and he recognizes the guest room ceiling and the familiar blue head of hair, it was almost like everything had changed, and a giant balloon inside his chest had popped so he could finally breath without fearing he would take up too much space.

"I love you." Chongyun breathes into his chest.

Immediately, Xingqiu's heart starts to beat faster, and he looks down at the top of his head with a new found sense of calm.

"Your heart is beating really fast again..." Chongyuns whispers.

"That's because I've never heard you say that before. I'm flattered." He exhales when Chongyun looks up faster than he's ever seen him move.

"Archons, you're awake!" He holds his face in his hands and gives him an incredibly tight hug while Xingqiu pats him on the back for reassurance.

"That I am, but Chongyun - I can't breath if you hold me so tightly." He laughs and Chongyun eases up on him.

"I can't believe you tried to wake me up though.  How did you know that would work?" Xingqiu asks him.

"I figured that there's no one else you could like as much as you like me, so I just assumed that...y'know, it was mutual." He says. "And besides, that's what best friends are for, right? To help each other out."

"I don't know if you can call me your best friend after this. I mean, this does technically make you my 'true love', does it not?"

Chongyun's blushes and looks down at their hands, a tangled mess after the shock of him waking up. "You're right. But what do we call each other now if not best friends?"

Xingqiu shrugs and smiles at him lightly. "I dunno. Wanna be my boyfriend?"

"You want me to - Huh?!" He turns scarlet to which Xingqiu laughs harder. "Can I really? Do you-do you want me to be your-?"

"Oh course I do. If I love you, then of course I'd want to be your boyfriend too." He grins. "And besides, I like how that words sounds on us. Booooyfriiiiiends." He says slowly before giggling.

"I think it sounds nice too. I just - wasn't expecting you to say that." Chongyun sighs happily. "So now I can say I'm Xingqiu's boyfriend."

"And I can say I'm Chongyun's boyfriend." Xingqiu completes his thought.

They both fall into an easy fit of giggles before Xingqiu goes quiet and a noticeable blush takes place on his cheeks. "Y'know, I'm a little disappointed that I was asleep for the kiss. I didn't even feel it. Maybe you could, I don't know..." he looks at him slyly. "Give your Sleeping Beauty another kiss? He's still pretty tired~"

"You know you can just ask without dressing it up, right?" Chongyun says, but scoots closer nonetheless.

Xingqiu smiles and tilts his head to slot his lips against his. "Don't pretend you don't love it~"

Xingqiu is finally this close - this close - to kissing him once and for all, and it's then that his parents decide to slam the door open followed by his distressed elder brother.

And again, they push each other away from shock, this time Chongyun falling off the bed and hitting the floor hard.

"Ow...! We really need to stop doing that..." he groans from the floor.
