The Fight

"Hey Francis, how were you feeling after you saw my masterpiece? You know, your late folks," the jerk taunted me, sporting a revolting grin. If I could, I'd have spat in his face, but no such luck.

I was stuck in an uncomfortable position, with some guy's foot planted firmly on my stomach. The grinning idiot to my right showed no signs of stopping, even after a solid five minutes of silence. I decided to ignore him and instead focused on the enormous, lifeless-looking dude who was shoving me into the ground. His brown eyes were devoid of any spark, his black hair and paper-white skin making him an unsettling sight. Even the other idiot seemed to dislike this vampire's character who was seriously getting on my nerves.

I knew I shouldn't use my powers right now because after the ceremony I was feeling quite unstable. I wasn't even sure if I could use them, but honestly, what did I have to lose? If I didn't use my powers, I'd probably die. So, might as well give it a shot, I thought, concentrating my thoughts on my surroundings. We were in the midst of trees and grass, completely surrounded by nature. It was the worst place for them to attack me, but they probably didn't even know I had already unlocked some of my abilities.

"Can you even speak, or did your tongue tie up after seeing your parents?" Mr. Asshole chimed in.

In that terrible moment, I knew I had to turn to the one constant I could always rely on - the forest that surrounded me. With my eyes closed, I began to concentrate on my surroundings. I felt the lush embrace of the forest, its ancient trees standing tall and majestic. The moon, casting its silvery light, illuminated my path to salvation. The gentle, cool breeze whispered through my hair, beckoning me to harness its power.

Drawing on the energy provided by nature, I felt a transformation within. The fear that had plagued me began to wither away, replaced by a newfound comfort and an unyielding determination. The energy flowed into my body and rekindled my spirit. I could feel it swirling within me, powerful and untamed.

As I continued to draw from this natural source of energy, I couldn't help but notice a subtle pulsation. It began deep within my core and radiated outwards, reaching every fibre of my being. My once ordinary eyes began to pulsate with the intensity of the power coursing through me.

In my mind's eye I could see the transformation taking place within my very being. My eyes, once an ordinary shade, now shone with an otherworldly brilliance. I imagined them turning a vivid, dazzling green, the colour of the forest in all its glory. The emerald depths of my irises would reflect the wisdom of the trees, the serenity of the moon and the power of the wind.

With my newfound power and the radiant emerald eyes, it gave me, I was ready to break free from my attacker's grip and it seemed like my enemies realised it too.

"Wait, that can't be. How did you perform the ceremony without your coven? Did we miss someone, David? He couldn't have done this alone," the big guy on my stomach inquired. So, his name was David? Yeah, he definitely looked like a David - massive and, well, that's about it, just massive.

"No, we took out everyone, I even pieced together the body parts to make sure," David replied. After that, I lost interest in their conversation and simply gazed to my right, muttering "Rośni"("grow"). The David character, or big donkey as I'd named him in my head, had no time to react before a massive root smacked him in the face, hurling him about 50 meters away.

He went sailing across the small clearing, smashing through some bushes and vanishing from my view. I got up, brushed the dirt off, and locked eyes with the remaining donkey, the one with ice-cold blue eyes. "I think it's time for a proper introduction," I said.

I was pleased to see that the nasty grin on this guy's face was now replaced by anger. He ran a hand through his scarlet hair, and his white skin flushed red with fury.

"You think a little extra power makes you capable of beating me? How pathetic," he sneered, spitting in my direction. I tried to keep my cool, but he wasn't making it easy.

"My name is Francis, as you already know, and I'm the last survivor of the 'Oczy Lasu' coven that you obliterated. Now, before I take you down, can I at least know your name? Calling you jackass or asshole in my head is starting to get quite boring, and I need to somehow remember your face," I declared.

He seemed a bit taken aback by my confidence, and honestly, so was I. Usually, I'd have been shouting insults at his ugly face and would tremble in fear for my life. After a while, I caught sight of the other guy I'd sent flying emerging from the bushes. Without even turning my head, I pointed my left hand in his direction and, looking directly into the nameless donkey's eyes, uttered "Rośni" again. This time, four roots sprang at him. One pierced his stomach, anchoring him, while the other two bound his hands to the ground, forcing him to kneel. The last one coiled around his neck, slowly choking him. If vampires could die from a lack of air, well, I'd make sure that they do.

"My name is Alexey, and you're a goner," Alexey muttered through clenched teeth, his eyes reflecting panic as he realized I was no pushover.

The wind picked up, and I harnessed it. I grinned while staring at Alexey, who had started charging in my direction. "Fruń," ("Fly") I said. The wind changed course, pulling him away from me, its force too much for him to resist. He careened into a tree with such intensity that the tree now had a massive hole in its middle.

I basked in my victory and approached the limp body on the ground. "I thought vampires were tougher than this," I mused. I looked over at David, who had ceased struggling against the roots. He'd probably lost half his blood and kicked the bucket.

"Your buddy's..." I never finished my sentence, as the donkey now had his hand around my throat, strangling me. Fear and anger over my own carelessness clouded my mind.

"Did you really believe a little breeze would kill me?" Alexey sneered, as he continued to strangle me. How the heck am I supposed to respond when you're choking the life out of me?! I thought.

"Hmm? You know, at first, I just wanted to take you with me because I wasn't allowed to kill you. But you know what? They never said you had to keep all your fingers," he said, chuckling with evil delight.

Before I knew it, I was thrown to the ground, with Alexey pinning me down with his knee. I could feel the mud seeping into my clothes. He grabbed my left hand and began to squeeze hard. "First, I'll break your bones, and then I'll chop off your fingers one by one," he threatened, a sinister glint in his ice-blue eyes. What a lunatic.

Just when I realized the gravity of the situation, Alexey was sent flying. It was Adam who had come to the rescue, hitting the vampire with incredible force. He looked at me with a genuine smile, extending his hand to help me up.

"Sorry, I noticed you weren't coming and heard some commotion behind the bushes. I first thought you were taking care of business, but then I smelled vampires," Adam laughed as he helped me to my feet.

"Yeah, thanks for the save," I said, looking in the direction where Alexey should've been, but he and his nearly dead friend had vanished.

"The vampire ran off with his buddy's body; you don't need to search for him," Adam explained.

I nodded and scanned the battle scene. Except for the obliterated tree and some scattered roots, nothing seemed out of place. "Alright, I think we can go now," I said to Adam with a smile, heading back to the car.

"Wait! You've got to tell me how you managed to take down one of them and what's with all the roots? Have you become a gardener or something?" Adam asked, trailing behind me.
