I hear the melody of raindrops tapping against my window and I gaze out the glass, looking at the dimly lit street by my house, fantasizing about living a different life, being somebody else. As I drift further into my mind I also slip out of the harsh reality that is life and the noise surrounding me begins to fade without me noticing. My body remains sitting still by my window while I step outside of myself and turn away from the sight. In front of me now is a world of my creation - a place to escape, found only within my mind.
Without hesitation, I step into the image and bask in all it's glory. I feel the soft grass between my toes and breathe in the crisp, fresh air that has a strange hint of nostalgia. The sky is always painted in the most wonderful colors, ever changing to the sound of my emotions. The clouds are made of hopes & dreams and when it rains, it changes the way the land breathes and creates a unique aroma of tranquility. My beautiful fantasy land where everything is perfect and I create & bend the rules as I please. In here I have full control and whatever I say, goes - whatever I say, it is law - it is absolute. In here it's impossible for the unpleasantness of reality to follow me. One day, I know that here is where I'll stay, I'll come here and I'll never leave again.
Oh, how many times I've tried to make this world my reality. Each time I've failed, this world crashes and I'm thrown out. Every time I'm always thrown back into my body, faced with the consequences and forced to swallow the truth that I can't have what I desire the most. Here, in the world that I built, the trees grow a thousand feet tall and it's always the perfect season all year round. Every bush is ripe with sweet fruits and love in it's purest form, the water is made out of serenity and the rivers & streams whisper secrets buried beneath the surface and within my subconscious. In the wind is a faint whisper of wishes and if you can hear the words, you'll be able to taste them. What I cherish the most about this world is the sparkling of shrunken, tiny stars floating in the air around me. Slowly rotating, dancing around one another and the surrounding greenery. A vast array of shining, sparkling colors twinkling in different hues that exist and hues that only exist within this realm. The stars, like the rivers and the wind, they whisper to no one. They whisper answers to life's greatest questions so quietly that it's impossible to hear.
The moment I start to walk towards the biggest tree in the center of this meadow, I notice how the sky starts to darken and the clouds begin to melt away in the air. The floating stars sizzle out and my world now begins to crumble and is swallowed by the void - I'm thrown out once again and fall back into my body that sits by my window where the coldness of reality waits for me. I'm startled by the soft touch of a hand on my shoulder. "Are you ok?" My mother's voice covers my ears like a warm blanket. "Yeah, sorry, I was just a little zoned out." I replied with a small smile that quickly fades away.
One day, I know I'll go back. One day, that world will be my new reality. One day, I'll be free from the shackles of this world and all the things that make me sick. When that day comes, I know I'll finally know how it feels to be truly happy.
