I was on my fist shift today without stella, the car ride to the firehouse was very quiet and I'm already missing her by my side.
Amongst the busy shift and multiple tough calls I forgot she wasn't here, until I headed to her office after I couldn't sleep, and instead of finding stella it was the relief lieutenant sat at the desk, all of Stella's belongings was still sat across the desk. A photo of the both of us from Mouchs award ceremony pride of place as I smiled.
"Hey...Severide? Do you need me" I hear from the relief Lieutenant who I didn't catch the name of yet, bringing me out of my trance staring at Stellas desk imagining it was her sat there.
"Oh Erm, no sorry, I actually came in here to look for Stella, kind of just an impulse after bad calls or during quiet times" I say as the relief lieutenant nods "I get that, she will be back here in no time, i hope she's enjoying her time off, they weren't kidding when they said this house is busy" he says with a chuckle as I laugh and nod "yeah the calls we get in a day some houses are only lucky enough to get in a year" I say as we both chuckle before an awkward silence fills the room.
I'm about to leave but pull myself back as I hold the door frame "Sorry, I didn't catch your name earlier" I ask him as he looks back up "Johnny Bennett" he says as I nod "lieutenant Bennett, glad to have you on board" I say before heading back to my office.
I sit on my chair and look at my watch, it was 11:45pm I took my phone out and loaded up my contacts, Stella's number was pinned at the top, saved with the name of "the wife".
I hovered over her name contemplating whether to call her, and as if on cue I get a notification from stella, I smile and open it and read her message "known I've been pregnant for less than a week and the first night without you I spend the whole night online shopping for him or her already, guess you can say I'm a little excited" the text says as I chuckle just then a couple of screenshots come through of some order confirmations and I look at what she's bought.
