After taking our respective seats, Jake questioned "Bruh, how do you know Jay? and what created the beef between you two?", I sighed, " I accidentally bumped into him in the hallway the other day and he totally behaved like a jerk. He is such a spoiled brat. How can a softie like you be friends with someone like that?" jake let out a small sigh, " We have been friends for more than 20 years and trust me he is really sweet. He just wants to portray himself like a bully so that everyone will be frightened of him, but he is really cute!" jake was widely smiling at his last comment and I didn't know how to react. Why would someone want people to be scared of them?
"Dude honestly, he is messed up, but I really don't care. I feel Minji is a really sweet girl, and I was intimidated by her!" " Minji is definitely intimidating, and Jay is like my brother. If you hang out with him, you will understand him. I hope you two get along." I scoffed "sure".
The teacher entered the class and with that our first lecture started and it was quite interesting. Our first class seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. Time seemed to fly by once again, and before we knew it, our second class had drawn to a close.
We only had two classes, so we were done for the day. Jake called me excitedly towards his side "Let's go to a cafe and we will show you around Seoul!", I smiled widely but jay scoffed at me "Jake what made you think that ill hang out with this Shorty?", seriously this man has no manners, I quickly responded to his comment, saying, "Jay, no one invited you, so don't interfere."
Jake came between us "Guys please stop. It's annoying that you keep bickering. Jay, you promised to do whatever I tell you because you technically forced me to shift to the dorms. So, I am not taking NO as an answer. And you, Sarah, can you put a slight effort to get along with him.", "Jake, I did not start, it was he who called me shorty.", "You don't have to continue right? you are better than him so please chill!", he has a point. "Okay fine "
With that we all went to the nearest cafe. Jay was sulking all along but the rest of us were having fun. I realized that even Minji is from a really wealthy background, yet she is so sweet unlike someone. We ordered our food, and we were just talking about random stuff and getting to know each other. Mirae had also joined us, so I was really happy.
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Jay asked a probing question that caught everyone off guard. "Why did you choose Korea out of all the countries in the world?" I was puzzled with his sudden question because he seemed to be least interested in our conversation. "I don't know what made you ask that question, but I would love to answer it. I really love K-pop and K-dramas and-", he cut me off mid-way and started talking in a very sarcastic tone, "Oh so you are just another K-pop fangirl who came to Korea thinking that you will find you oppa here." saying that he started laughing and I was very offended. "I'm not sure where you went to school because basic manners include not interrupting when someone is speaking. Unfortunately, I don't expect even basic manners from you!" Jay was in loss of words and everyone else were pretty impressed with me as I was able to shut his mouth.
"So, as I was saying, I've been a fan of K-pop since I was very young. Listening to some Korean songs brings me a sense of calm. I've always been intrigued by the country's infrastructure and culture, so I decided to apply to universities in Korea. My parents suggested I either go to a university in Texas or stay with my grandma in India to pursue my master's, but I didn't want either of those options. I really wanted to experience a new country and begin living independently, so I just chose Yonsei."
I finished my short speech, and everyone was happy that I got to follow my own path. Minji praised my determination and mentioned, "You're fortunate that you could choose your path. Some people can't even choose their own outfits." She sighed, and I simply nodded because I didn't want to delve further into that remark. "So, who's your favorite K-pop group?" Minji asked, and I had been waiting for this question."I love Stray Kids, they're my ultimate group. I also follow other groups like BTS, Seventeen, TXT, Lessarfim, Blackpink, and many more." I noticed a hint of amusement on Jay's face when I mentioned Stray Kids, but I didn't think much of it, assuming he didn't show emotions. Then, Jake chimed in, "You know what? Jay is also a big Stray Kids fan. He's a huge fanboy and has been to almost every one of their concerts in Korea." That's when I realized I wasn't wrong about sensing his excitement.
"OMG, you're a Stay?" I asked him, momentarily forgetting our previous arguments. He shot a WTF look at Jake and replied, "Yes, I am, and it's quite unfortunate that you and I have similar music tastes." He said it with a disgusted expression. I decided there was no point in conversing with him, so I turned to Jake, who was smiling at me. I recalled the embarrassing incident from the previous night, and Jake seemed to understand, giving me a reassuring look that said, "Your secret is safe with me."
Our food arrived, and we all ate while having a good time together. We learned more about each other, and I noticed that Jay seemed to be warming up a bit, while Jake was delighted because there were no arguments between Jay and me for a few minutes.
Mirae, who had been looking at her phone, suddenly exclaimed, "Dude, Stray Kids have a dome tour next month, and they'll be releasing ticket bookings soon!" I was thrilled at the thought of finally seeing them in concert. I really wanted a floor seat, so I started checking the estimated prices.
Out of nowhere, Jay spoke, "The floor seats are crazy expensive, and you won't be able to afford them." He said this with a sly grin, and I was on the verge of losing my temper when Minji stepped in, saying, "Jay, I swear to God, if you don't stop making such rude comments, I'll disown you." Jay defended himself, saying, "I was just sharing the information I know, Minji. You don't have to get so worked up about it." Minji was clearly annoyed with his behavior, so she excused herself and left the cafe.
"Jay, can you please be a bit nicer and not act like a jerk? You're not usually like this. Stop behaving that way," Jake said calmly, and Jay looked apologetic and hurried after Minji. I couldn't help but wonder if they were dating.
Then, what Jay had said hit me hard. My parents had already spent a lot of money, and I couldn't ask them for more for a concert. They'd be extremely upset with me. We're not poor, but they believe in reasonable spending. Tears welled up in my eyes. That's when Mirae comforted me, saying, "Don't worry, we'll figure out a way, and I'm sure we'll get those floor seats." I smiled at her, and Jake gave me a hug, saying, "I'll even attend the concert with you", and that made me smile. With that, we left the cafe after settling the bill. I felt really fortunate to have found these two because they genuinely cared about me.
