As Rachel slowly regained consciousness, the absence of the earth's natural scent, replaced by the intoxicating aroma of freshly baked banana bread, immediately struck her. Overwhelmed, her senses struggled to adapt; her vision blurred on the left side, rendering her disoriented and confused. Instead of the expected silhouettes of trees or the familiar green of grass, she found herself within the confines of her bedroom. She was home, a realization that brought no comfort. The familiar coverlet draped over her failed to warm the chill of fear settled in her bones. Her hands, trembling, found no wounds upon her body, no blood. She ran her fingers through her curly hair, a gesture of perplexity, trying to grasp the situation.

"Maybe this is a dream... Come on, Rachel, you have to wake up," she murmured to herself, clapping her face in a futile attempt to awaken from what she hoped was a nightmare. Yet, the stubborn reality of her room remained unchanged. Touching the sheets, she sought to anchor herself in their reality, to deny the possibility of her fears being true. But the absence of her family haunted her, the memories of her brother piercing through the facade of bravery she tried to maintain. Turning to the bedside, a photograph of her brother offered a bittersweet solace. Picking it up, the dust on the frame spoke of the time passed, of a permanence she wished she could deny. "So much has happened after I lost you... I thought it would be better here, but now I'm not so sure," she confessed to the silence, her voice a blend of sorrow and rage.

The intrusion of a mysterious voice shattered the fragile peace, turning her blood to ice. Rachel faced the shadow, its eyes glowing an unnatural blue, its form ominously growing as it approached. The room seemed to darken, consumed by a shadow that brought with it a chill of death. "Your mind is fragile," it taunted, echoing around her, a mocking reminder of her vulnerabilities.

In a state of panic, Rachel made a desperate move towards the window, her mind racing with the need to escape. The curtains, once mundane, now felt like barriers to her freedom. She pulled them aside with a force born of fear, revealing the window that suddenly represented her only escape. Her hands fumbled with the window handle, her attempts to open it growing more frantic with each passing second. The window remained unyielding, a silent adversary to her desperation.

Without a moment's thought, driven by a primal fear, Rachel began to pound on the window with all her might. Each strike was a plea for escape, a desperate attempt to break through the barriers confining her. But in her panic, she failed to notice the toll her efforts were taking on her body until it was too late. With one final, forceful bang, a sharp snap echoed through the room, a sound gruesomely out of place. Pain exploded in her arm, a white-hot agony that seared through her consciousness. She looked down in horror to see her arm grotesquely twisted, a bone protruding from her skin in a testament to her desperation. A scream tore from her throat, a sound of pure terror and agony.

As she cradled her injured arm, a thick, black substance began to ooze from the wound, pooling onto the floor with a sinister intent. The shadow, now more defined, watched her with chilling amusement. "Oh,dear Rachel looks like you've gotten a boo-boo. I'll just have to fix that," it said, its voice dripping with mockery as it snapped her bone back into place. The pain was unimaginable, yet as her skin knitted together, the black ooze slipping into the cracks of the floor, she realized the true horror of her situation. She rubbed her arm, her hands trembling as she felt for the bone, for the marks. Despite her hand appearing healed, she could feel pain shooting through her arms and something moving her arm. Tears streamed down her face, not just from the pain but from the realization of her helplessness in the face of this nightmarish reality.
