I Missed Out on a Hel of a lot of Problems

As soon as we got back from our first flight I hopped off of Scoot and face planted on the ground, apparently being in the air for hour can effect a persons balance in a similar way to getting off of a boat after an extended period of time.

Hiccup sat beside me and prodded the back of my head with three fingers.

"Midgard to idonea." He said adding another poke with each syllable. "Are you dead?"

"Close enough." I grumbled to the soil and worms.

"Can you breathe?" He said. I rolled over.

"Yes."

"Good..." he fiddled with his sleeves, obviously agitated about something. "...So what did you think." So he thought I hadn't been completely over joyed to be in the air.

"Ummmmm..." I pretended to think about it as I cast my eyes to the side and mussed up a strand of my hair, it was a mighty fine bit of acting if I do say so myself. He was audibly holding his breath.
"I bloody loved it." I flopped back to the ground with a grunt.

I had honestly never seen him looking so relieved, I knew he always hated being the odd man out, If it weren't for me he truly would be, it was awful to think about it, being without the other to help make our extreme otherness seem relatively normal.

I sighed and raised my hand to where Scoots nose was sitting by my head.

"It was exhilarating, amazing, marvelous, I don't know, those words barely describe it correctly."

"It was freeing wasn't it." He reclined next to me and copied my action with his own dragon.

"Dam right it was." I agreed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There was no training the day before in light of the voyagers returning home. I don't know what kind of limbo I was in but me and Hiccup were never in the same place until around midnight that evening, where I was privileged enough to witness an adorable moment with Astrid, and Hiccup informed me that apparently I had missed out on ridiculous amounts of important information, but lets start from the beginning.

"Morning." Though that was a bit of a lie it was still dark out. I said As I walked down the stairs expecting Hiccup to be there but I was greeted with someone else.

"Morning." A gruff voice answered from the corner of the room.

"DA." I flinged myself at my father, I really hadn't realized how much I had been missing him till this moment. He wrapped me up in a big bear hug, nearly squeezing the life out of me.

"Idonea." He muttered into my hair still hugging me as hard as my bones would allow.

"So, how'd it go." I really didn't want to ask this question but It had become such a habit that the words forced their way out of my mouth. I could tell by the look on his face that it didn't go well.

"Well, Never mind that you're here and that is good enough."

"Speaking of here, is Hiccup?" Dad asked tilting his head toward the sectioned loft me and hiccup shared.

"I don't know dad, I haven't been on his side of the loft in years, and I ain't gonna start now." I wrinkled my nose at the thought. I'd overheard from Ruffnut that boys rooms were disgusting and were filled with unholy surprises not fit for the eyes of a lady. Coming from Ruffnut, it had to be pretty terrible.

"Oh come on you've shared a womb." My dad said bluntly, He always had such a way with words. I looked him dead in the eyes and deadpanned.

"We were innocent of the ways of the world then dad, I don't wanna know what he has hidden in there." He scoffed, but rose before sweeping me into he arms and onto his shoulder like I was seven again.

"Duck." He said calmly, as he rose up the stairs, eventually coming to the trap door to the loft. I pushed it open and held onto my dad's helmet as he ascended through the hatch. We lumbered over the floorboards before halting at Hiccup's door. My dad knocked before pushing the door open. He ,as expected, wasn't there.

"Oh well." My father grunted. "Just wanted to give him a bit of extra encouragement before the finals today."

I giggled tiredly I must have heard him wrong.

"What, are you that convinced you are going to win." My father teased lightly.

Oh .... He was serious .... I was dead.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok so I wasn't as dead as I originally thought, still totally dead but less so, if that makes any sense whatsoever.

I managed to make it third in dragon training, which my father could be proud of, and I could thank my lucky stars that I had Scoot to learn from.

The Gronckle got Fishlegs first, before I made it fall into an over exited scaly puddle with a few blades of dragon nip.

Then the Zippleback got the other twins, before Hiccup got their weak spot, which funnily enough is right between their two necks.

And the terrible terror escaped while the Nadder was being released and got Snotlout. I only got out because I was laughing so hard that I leaned right into a stray spine that only just caught my helmet. I was still giggling and wiping my eyes as I followed Snotlout out of the ring.

Finally Hiccup claimed victory using an aforementioned technique and I went pale, He looked up at me, we both knew what it meant, this was a problem.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I climbed into the cove later that evening and strapped a newly developed saddle that I had spent the rest of the day making in light of this urgent occasion I needed to get him out of here. I would go with him if I must because I couldn't watch another dragon get killed, especially by the hands of a family member.

I heard a crashing through the trees and an angry scream before the tell tale sound of metal clunking into wood could be heard. Scoot growled quietly before grabbing my shirt and pulling me into a hidden crevice tucking his wing over my body, allowing the tiniest glint of space for me to peer out into the cove, He made a series of low whoops and whistles getting the attention of toothless who had been sleeping soundly in the corner of the cove, He rushed over and tucked himself next to us, They made a wall of black wings around me keeping anything that might catch the eye from view of the cove. A Night Fury cocoon is oddly comforting in the chilly archipelago autumn, it's completely dark, but there is nothing to fear in it because you are sandwiched between two big over protective dragons whom radiate bread baking amounts of heat. Their pillowy underbellies are very comfortable, and their tails curl around you in such a way it feels like a ton of furs. If you have ever had the pleasure of sneaking into the middle of the tribes laundry pile you know what ninety nine percent of it feels like.

I Think I fell asleep in there because the next thing I know it's night, Toothless is gone, and Astrid just kissed Hiccup on the cheek right in front of me without their knowledge.
