Dragon training

The next hour was a blur. I wandered out of the village and stumbled around the forest looking for Scoot, Who I prayed had been forgotten in the kurfluffle. Hiccup was so distraught by our disownment he just walked off to the docks to watch his best friend be chained and abused, feeling useless because he could do nothing to remedy the situation.

I finally came upon the just waking dragon who yawned loudly before opening his big dark sea green eyes. His pupils dilated upon recognizing my face and he gave a quiet questioning whimper.

"Hey bud, I'm glad you're ok." He gave a slight warble as I smoothed my hand over his scales He pressed his nose into my stomach and purred contentedly.

He stepped back after a minute and smelled the air waddling on his hind legs around me, giving me a once over before focusing in on the  gash on the side of my head. He sniffed at it before making and gagging sound and growling quietly.

"Hey it's not all that bad." I said moving my hand to touch my forehead, dam that hurts. I watched Scoot lower his eyelids slowly copying the exasperated look Hiccup and I had given each other countless times in his presence.

"Hush you." I took my hand away from my head and watched the slow drips of my own congealing blood fall off my fingers into the grass below. For the first time I noticed how blurry everything seemed, but in a weird way like my focused eyesight had narrowed and my periphery expanded so that everything around the exact point I was looking at had become even more hazy than normal. I was getting a little dizzy.

I leaned against Scoot while I breathed in through my nose and out through my mouth trying to find my bearings, needless to say it didn't help much. Scoot must have understood my sudden distress he slowly leaned down and lightly licked the wound it stung for a second but ultimately felt better after a moment. I was still dizzy beyond movement though.

He purred before taking off with a single beat of his wings and repeating our earlier retreat by taking my shoulders in his talons, Making sure to not squeeze too tight, and flying me over the tops of the trees. It was mildly uncomfortable but like Scoot a few weeks earlier in my almost inebriated state I couldn't bring myself to care.

He flew over the village ignoring the occasional pointing and yelling from small children. None of the adults saw us thankfully, they were all down at the docks preparing for a war that they would not win.

I saw my peers walking around in a mob together following Hiccup, who suddenly looked up,  and yelled, changing course and chasing Scoot's flight path. The other teens all gasped in unison and followed after him.

"Scoot buddy, you can touch down, Hiccup is right there." I pointed down at him. Scoot snorted and kept flying until he made it to the middle of the edge of the village where Gothi's hut lay. He placed me down on the ground gently, made himself sneeze in the process and sniffed the  medicine I still put on his pick greyish-pick scar, just in case. Once he got a good bearing of that he tilted his head back and smelled of the air moving his head back and forth until clocking in on her hut he seemed to nod before leaning onto his front legs and picking me up by my collar with his teeth. He once again waddled on his back legs until he made it to Gothi's hut He turned swiftly on his heel do dragons even have heels  anyway he banged the door open with the flat of his tail and backed inside.

I swayed slightly as he placed me down next to the fireplace propping me up so that I would stay awake He snuffled around pulling jars of recognizable herbs down every once in a while leaning down and smelling the medicine. He placed an assortment of three jars two sacks and bandages that were now soaked in his saliva. I leaned forward and grabbed the jars reading the labels.

Huh he literally tracked down the herbs I used in his medicine.

I reached out and patted his head.

"Oh aren't you just the smartest boy yes you are." He grunted and used the tip of his nose to shove the things toward me.

I applied the stuff to my wound and just started binding it when the door banged open again and Hiccup barged in nodding at Scoot before turning to me.

"Iddy! When did you get that?" I couldn't fault him for not noticing he had been going through a lot when it happened I was just glad he had snapped out of his mental slump.

"Uhh We'll talk about it later." Suddenly Fishlegs piped up.

"Oh my- Is that ANOTHER Nightfury, YOU HAD ONE TOO." I could see him starting to geek past my brother's shoulder.

"Yes and yes but that isn't important right now Fishlegs." I got up slowly as I finished off the bandages. I listed to the left slightly and Scoot caught my shirt in his teeth.

I heard a familiar clunk on the grass as the owner of this hut drew closer.

"OW!" I heard Snotlout squeal as a wooden staff connected with his helmet.

Gothi barged in and raised her staff above her head preparing to bring it down on Scoot when I got in between and caught it mid swing.

"STOP." I yelled as she attempted to bring a kick to my legs, Scoot bent down and wiggled his head in between my splayed legs effectively picking me up and putting me on his back. I let go of Gothi's staff and urged him forward.

"Move please." I bent down on Scoot's back as he passed through the door.

"Go to the arena, Prepare the dragons." Hiccup said to me. I nodded and patted Scoot's head and He took off. I could hear a smattering of questions being showered on my brother as me and Scoot flew further and further away.

Scoot dived through the open hole that was in the arena and pulled up before landing crouching so that I could get off without jostling my head injury I walked forward and he tailed me closely behind growling and whimpering at the cages, all of which quieted considerably once they smelled one of their brethren. I opened the Monstrous Nightmare cage first I watched him slowly stick his head up from where he had been sleeping. He walked out slowly keeping eye contact with me as I hovered my hand over his snout. I lay my hand down and allowed him to sit outside his cage.

"All right you two if the rest of these dragons get rowdy I'm gonna need your help." Scoot whined in agreement and the Monstrous Nightmare simply shook his neck as if he were some great big horse trying to get flies out of his mane. I opened the Gronkles cage next she seemed the most calm inside there.

She lay on her back if I didn't know any better I would have thought she was dead. I simply had to tap her on the nose with my finger which I had taken the time to rub in so dragon nip before walking in.

The Nadder was a little more difficult seeing as she was a species that was tailored not to trust but I managed to get her out of the cage without much of a fuss.

I will skip over the Zippleback mainly because there was a ridiculous amounts of cursing the name of Loki for creating this beast when it decided to stubbornly refuse to even move a toad hair in any direction.

Finally The other teens came to my rescue and got into the arena just as Scoot finally got the two headed dragon to stop hanging me upside down from its teeth.

I backed up swaying slightly and moved to Snotlout who was about to pick up a spear head but was thankfully deterred by Astrid.

"We don't want any panicking dragons today." I grabbed his wrist and connected it with the waiting horn of the Monstrous Nightmare.

Hiccup pretty much directed the rest of them to their respective dragons, they all got pretty good matches to their personalities if I had to say so myself.
