Rita's P.O.V
I was so excited I could barely keep still. I was going to see him again. It had been a long time, almost a month. Chris and I were officially best friends, although we had to keep it a secret. why you ask? His dad would probably kill both of us if he found out. Wait, cut out the last part, he would hire a band of trained mercenaries with huge guns and bombs to come blow up the orphanage using an atomic bomb. Just kidding, not!!!
We usually saw each other at least once a week but now that Chris was turning seventeen his dad was forcing him to visit eligible young maidens that he could marry. I didn't know why that bothered me though, every time I thought of it I felt rage bubble up in my chest. He was only my best friend. Maybe that was reason I didn't want him to get married , because then he wouldn't be able to visit me and be my friend. His wife may not approve of him being friends with me because I was a lowly poor orphan.
Never mind I couldn't be bothered with that right now because tonight was the night of another grand fundraiser. The only reason I was probably excited about it was because Chris's father wasn't attending so he asked me to be his date, as friends of course. This was probably the first time in years where I didn't mind being dolled up.
60 mins later.....
Where was he? The fundraiser started an hour ago I was standing right where he had planned to meet me; at the foot of the grand staircase. Just then I heard the announcement, "Welcoming Mr.Christian Black and Miss Wendy Dupree", huh that was odd , why was there a girl with him. I could feel the rage simmering again not because he had an other date but because he set me up for her. Oh no! He was walking towards me, what should I do?
