WHEN TU'AHU WOKE UP, KIRI WAS AWAKE, THEIR FAMILY SURROUNDING HER. Tu’ahu stood up quickly, too quickly, as she wobbled over to her sister, kneeling at her side. “Hi, Kiri. Are you okay?” she asked, wiping Kiri’s tears.
Kiri nodded. “Are you okay? I heard your voice the whole time, telling me to relax, and that I was going to be okay.” she said, beginning to sit up with their mother’s help.
“That was Eywa. I asked her to help you,” Tu’ahu explained, holding out her hand for Tu’ahu to take. She turned to Neteyam and Lo’ak. “How did we get out of there? You weren’t there,” she pointed to Lo’ak, “and I know your noodly arms can’t hold both of us.” she pointed to Neteyam, who rolled his eyes.
“I took Kiri, and Aonung and Rotxo helped you.” Neteyam explained, gently shoving Tu’ahu’s head back.
Tu’ahu’s face curled up in disgust. “Ugh, Aonung?” she asked, and Tuk nodded. Jake and Neytiri smiled at their children, interacting without fighting.
“You hate him, right?” Jake asked, arm around his wife as they sat to Kiri’s right.
“She despises him, Dad. She’s punched him twice, and she’s never not glared at him. I don’t think I’ve ever seen her hate anyone as much as she hates Aonung.” Kiri said, her and the boys chuckling.
Tu’ahu nodded, agreeing with Kiri’s statements. Neteyam spoke up. “She won’t anymore.” he said, nudging Lo’ak, and he laughed too, remembering what Tsireya had told him.
“What does that mean?” Tu’ahu asked seriously. Neteyam just laughed. “Neteyam! What does that mean?” Tu’ahu asked again, clapping in her brother’s face.
“Well, you weren’t breathing, and Aonung did CPR on you.” Neteyam said, watching his sister’s face fall.
Tu’ahu cringed, hoping it didn’t go further than chest compressions. “No… tell me he didn’t.” she almost begged.
Tuk laughed, sitting with Kiri. “He did mouth-to-mouth on you.” she giggled. Jake and Neytiri looked at each other, watching as Tu’ahu was about to self-destruct.
“Like four times.” Neteyam said, he and Lo’ak laughing at Tu’ahu’s face.
Tu’ahu covered her face with her hands, groaning loudly into them. “I’m going to kill him.”
“No, you’re not.” Jake spoke up, fighting back a laugh.
Neytiri sighed. “He saved your life, itetsyìp. The least you can do is thank him.” (little daughter)
Tu’ahu removed her hand’s from her face, turning to her mother with a glare as the boys continued to laugh. “Who’s side are you on, Mother?” she asked, letting Tuk crawl into her lap.
“The side of whoever keeps you alive.” Neytiri answered, leaning into her husband’s embrace. Tu’ahu turned around, rolling her eyes behind her mother’s back.
Lo’ak spoke up, lightly hitting his sister in the arm. “You should go talk to him. Show him your appreciation.” he looked to Neteyam, and the two of them mimicked kissing sounds to each other.
