TU’AHU, KIRI AND TUK WAITED WITH BATED BREATH FOR QUARITCH TO COME BACK. It seemed like forever, but it was only ten minutes. They talked amongst themselves, the two older sisters trying to keep Tuk calm.
Tu’ahu would make sure they were okay. She had no weapons, nothing to defend herself, but she would fight until she died if it meant Tuk and Kiri were unharmed. Tu’ahu thought of Loran’s infant son, and it gave her strength to make it back to him.
She thought of Lo’ak and Neteyam, and even Spider. She had allowed them to get free before she even tried to. They were safe now.
She thought of Tsireya, Rotxo and Aonung. Her friends. Her Aonung. She knew Tsireya was safe, and she prayed that Rotxo and Aonung were safe too. Part of Tu’ahu wanted Aonung to come and save her but she would be satisfied knowing he was safe.
She thought of her parents, the mighty warriors. They would save them, and Tu’ahu would fight alongside them, but like she was meant to. She knew Neytiri and Jake would never leave their three girls to fend for themselves.
She thought of herself. She had to stay strong, and she couldn’t crack. Tu’ahu was too strong to die at the hands of an avatar. She would not settle for that type of death.
When Quaritch did come back, he brought four avatars with him, one of them holding a large taser-like weapon. They joined the two guards, and the six avatars untied Tu’ahu while she attempted to get free.
She was punched in the face and thrown to the ground while Tuk screamed in fear. “Stay down!” an avatar yelled, holding her arms down while another avatar tied her left arm to the pole.
Quaritch squatted in front of the girl who was now sitting on the ground, breathing heavily. “Let’s not make this harder than it has to be, alright? Where is your father?” he asked.
Tu’ahu shook her head. “Oe ke omum.” (I don’t know) Tu’ahu said, her braids falling in her face.
To her right where Kiri was, they pushed her away, turning the taser weapon on, bringing it dangerously close to Tu’ahu’s face. Quaritch sighed. “I’m only going to ask you one more time. Where is Jake Sully?” he shouted in her face now.
“I don’t know!” Tu’ahu yelled back at him, leaving Na’vi language behind. She truly did not know, and she hadn’t seen either of her parents since before they all left to save Payakan.
Quaritch stood, beckoning for the other avatars to come closer to Tu’ahu. One grabbed her right leg, holding it down, another did the same to her left leg. One held her right arm to the ground, one held Tuk in place to keep her from reacting, and the last did the same to Kiri.
“What are you doing to her?” Kiri shouted as the taser weapon hummed near Tu’ahu’s arm.
“Where is Jake Sully?” Quaritch screamed, seething in anger.
Tu’ahu was terrified, but she wouldn’t let Quaritch see her fear. She turned to where Tuk was. “Tuk, don’t watch. I don’t know what’s gonna happen, but please don’t watch.” she begged her baby sister, voice cracking as she spoke.
