CHOSEN AU... HISTORICAL (yes monarchy, dukes and counts type historical, we aren't in Japan or any Japan parallels)

LIBRARIAN!TOMO x PRINCESS!READER

She wandered through vast, tall halls. Where the ceiling could shatter the skies and the decorative pieces possibly cost more than a duke's finest estate. [F/n] could barely spend her time gazing upon what was customary for the imperial family, but rather rushed towards a destination not unfamiliar to her, nor to the servants that happened to spot her.

Everyone in the castle knew their princess was an avid reader of all sorts of books. To properly receive the meanings and intentions of an author and story, she demanded no external disturbance. When she entered the library, the doors were securely locked and guards dispersed from the radius.

As dangerous as it may seem, [F/n] was particular about having staff nearby during her reading time.

But two, technically three, members were an exception.

The royal librarian, Kazuha. As well as his assistant, Tomo and his cat Tama.

She couldn't kick either from their post and so she just grew used to their presence. Kazuha was there more often than Tomo, he was almost a part of the library, and his job was to organise and restore older books that had been neglected by his predecessor, which the library was abundant in. Tomo was there as a traveller seeking work, and through his connections to Kazuha, earned a temporary placement in the palace. He caters to the library generally as well as its visitors.

Tomo and the princess were close. It was no surprise to others with how often she visited. The question was how close. Close enough for her to visit the library at night, when everyone is asleep but Tomo always seems awake? Close enough for him to come into her chambers and discuss books over tea without the attendance of her ladies-in-waiting?

Rumours will always spread about their relationship. As much as the princess claimed Tomo treated her like a little sister or close friend, it was clear their feelings towards each other transcended being strictly platonic. Tomo spent so much of the majority of his time in the library, he hadn't had the chance to be asked about it, only briefly warned by his mentor that closeness like this is bound to be troublesome.
