Daryl
When Daryl opened his eyes, he cursed internally. He was still tangled with Beth on the couch and before he could even start to scold himself for his actions, he turned his head as he heard a little laugh.
Judith was awake and smiling wide at him, putting a smile on his face in turn. She was babbling non-sense and Daryl was affraid it would wake Beth up.
She needed the sleep, she had been awake at night when Judith cried to calm her down and now that she was finally sleeping, Daryl didn't want her to wake up yet.
So he got up gently and took Judith with him as he exited the room.
Even after Beth got up in the middle of the night, when she got back to bed, she snuggled to Daryl and he let her. He took her in his arms.
It didn't seem weird and Daryl didn't regret it. It had felt natural, like this was the only logical thing in this goddamn illogical world. Having Beth in his arms that night felt right.
A few people were awake when Daryl got out of the office but he kept Judith with him. Gave her food and played with her until Beth finally woke up.
The moment she made eye contact with Daryl, she smiled.
She was so beautiful, in a long shirt and with sleepy eyes, her hair in a messy bun, locks sticking out from everywhere.
Daryl tore his eyes away when he realized he was staring. Why the hell was he staring at her ?
He knew damn well the answer to that question but it was too much to take in.
Everyone was awake by the time Beth got up but everyone also heard Judith's cry that night so they only shared understanding smiles to Beth.
Rick got a map and spread it on the living room table and they started to discuss where to go next.
Daryl was there only to tell Rick if something was too dangerous to consider but he would follow them wherever they went.
After an intense discussion, they decided to still go to Washington DC.
Daryl didn't know why they wanted to go Washington in the first place but when Michonne brought it up, Abraham tensed up and everyone looked at Eugene so he guessed there was some kind of backstory that they didn't want to talk about.
Daryl felt out of it. He agreed, of course, but it was like he wasn't apart of it. Like it didn't really matter. It should but it didn't.
He realized that as long as Beth, Judy and the group was there, it didn't matter where they were. He realized that this was his family. Beth in particular became the most important person in his life so quickly. She came and changed his life and his vision of the world without any warning.
Not long ago, Beth was only a girl from his group that he only cared about because she was apart of this group but she was now so much more. She was everything.
He had been as blind as the others not that long ago. Not seeing how special this girl was. Now that his eyes were opened, it seemed so obvious.
Rick clapped his hands and it snapped Daryl out of his thoughts. So it was decided, they would leave the next day to Washington.
The rest of the day was spent packing and it was a good day, everyone was in a good mood at the prospect of having a new goal. Somewhere to go.
When Rick asked who wanted to be on watch duty that night, he turned to Daryl. Assuming he would volunteer because that's what he always did but this time, he stayed silent. Looking foreward to spending the night with Beth again. He knew they would share the couch again.
