CHAPTER ONE ; Unusual Three

*✧ ───────── ✧*

"Oh, Shinobu. I didn't expect to see you here. Have you been summoned by the master?"
You asked.

The insect pillar giggled quietly at the obliviousness.

"No, silly, I'm here for you! I need to make sure you don't run away from making friends." She teased, walking beside you. You couldn't help but sulk at the unfortunate fate that had been bestowed upon you.

"Making friends with a demon... ridiculous."

Shinobu hummed knowingly: "Our sisters would no doubt be jumping for joy right now." She recalled fondly.

You both remained quiet for a time until you arrived at the front of the butterfly estate.

"You know... you should smile, your resting face is... how do I put this nicely-"

"Scary."

"Whaaaat? I never said that!" Shinobu waved you off as you averted your eyes downward.

"It's alright; I hear what the kakushi and lower ranks say about me.

"Well... you do look lovely when you smile~" She gave a rare, genuine grin as heat began to rush to your cheeks.

"Perhaps I'll try harder then."

The butterfly girl clapped her hands together as you both walked in, towards the room where the newcomers were based.

"IT WAS HELL!" A voice was heard from the other side of the door as you two slipped in quietly, the insect pillar wearing a particularly devious look.

"THE PILLARS ARE WAY TO SCARY-"

"Hello!" The ravenette chimed at the rower ranked boy, who swerved around so fast that it probably caused whiplash.

"MASTER KOCHO! MASTER [L/N]! Y- YOU'RE HERE!" He stuttered as he slowly hovered towards the door.

"I'LL BE GOING NOW! BYE BYE!" The slayer quickly ran away.

You and Shinobu stared at the three now in front of them, the three looking at you both with dotted eyes.

"How are your bodies doing?" Shinobu asked the three boys.

"It's getting a lot better!" The maroon haired one said it, a dumb smile on his face.

"Thank you so much for asking." An unusually small man gushed, a bright pink hue surrounding his cheeks.

"Ah, perfect! I'll introduce you to your new trainer! This is [L/N] [Y/N], the thunder pillar! They're a little shy and antisocial, so please take care of them!" She smiled despite the relatively harsh words.

It feels like she's my mother or something...

You thought as Shinobu held her hands out to the others like you were a grand ornament.

"It's... uh... nice to meet you?" You awkwardly bowed with an unnatural smile on your face.

You heard a muffled laugh and turned towards the small woman who stood behind you with a disheartened look.

"When I told you to smile, I meant genuinely! You look like you hate everything!"

I do at this moment...

"Wow... you're... you're... YOU'RE PERFECT!" The yellow-haired boy wailed, his hands making a grabbing gesture.

"MY NAME IS AGATSUMA ZENITSU! AND I AM ON THE MARKET! SINGLE! READY TO MING-"

"Nice to meet you, [L/N]!" The maroon boy started, "I am Kamado Tanjiro; thank you for training us!" He gave a small bow as he sat in his bed.

A croaky groan could be heard from the boar mask.

"He is Hashibira Inosuke! His throat has been damaged, but what he means is 'nice to meet you' as well!" Tanjiro beamed.

You nodded in acknowledgement.

"Well then, now that's done, why don't we get you checked up, [Y/N]?" Shinobu patted your shoulder as you nodded in response.

Bowing one last time to the room of boys, you left without saying another word.

"That was embarrassing. I hope a demon breaks in and kills me right now." The monotonous tone of your words caught Shinobu off guard, and she gave a loud laugh.

"Well, socialising with people your own age can be hard!"

She opened her office door, and you walked in and sat down on the chair in the middle.

Carefully, you took off the haori and set it down on the back of the chair. Then you started unbuttoning your uniform shirt.

Shinobu then closed the door and gathered some cleaning alcohol and a fresh bandage.

When the old bandage was revealed, the Kocho tutted sarcastically.

"My, my! You must have reopened the stitches when you went to the masters. "It's a good thing you didn't go to the pillar meeting."

She started unwrapping the now-dirty bandage; the white had now turned brownish-red from the dried blood.

She opened a drawer next to her, taking out a sterile needle and suture thread.

You couldn't help but flinch as she weaved the needle in and out of the still bruised skin. In acknowledgement, she started a conversation to take your mind off of it.

"Do you think you'll get along well with them?" She asked, a genuinely curious tone laced in her voice. The concentration in her face was clear.

"I'm not sure. I'm used to my own company compared to others." You replied, gasping at a particularly tender spot.

"That's not a good thing, you know? Making friends and having conversation is good for a growing mind such as yours." She said it with a slight tease in her voice.

You nodded in response, "I'm aware; it's just hard when people find you unapproachable. "You're a lot better at hiding your anger than I am."

She hummed.

This was why you were both so close. Sharing the same hatred towards demons due to what they took away from you both.

Your sisters.
