Haru POV:
Alright, for context, these are things that stuck with us in our school years. I can only recall that incident very well. I don't really remember the rest of my middle school days since they were mostly all the same. I do have some other incidents I may or may not want to share with you.
Let me set the scene. It was the first exam period and most of our class already finished. We were free for the rest of the day, since it was already lunchtime and the we have already finished the exam for the classes we had today. I wanted to go to lunch but Jiro was still inside the classroom, taking the math exam. He didn't really like math, even though he was a genius when it comes to algebra. And... This was a geometry test. We've already taken our algebra test, in which he scored the 2nd highest in our class. He wasn't that bad at geometry but, let's just say, he would get really stressed when doing the homework. I'm kind of used to the silent crying by now and what makes him feel better is a hug, so that's what I do to calm him down every time. Right now, though, I'm not allowed inside, and that's why I'm standing right at the doors, with two lunch bentos in hand.
After a few minutes of waiting, Jiro finally stepped out. His face was red and his hands were shaking.
"Hey, Haru."
"Are you alright? I got you some lunch too." We headed towards the cafeteria.
"Thanks... I'm screwed. This test was something." He sat down and I sat next to him.
"I don't think you scored worse than me. I got a 390 degree angle once. I just left it. Who knows, maybe I was right."
Jiro cackled. "You had to divide the answer by 3. That was how you actually got the angle in the picture. You can't even get a 390 degree angle. A full angle is 360 degrees."
"You're good at this. How com you get so stressed when you clearly know the answer?"
"First off, it's basic geometry, second, the questions are kinda dumb. YOU CAN CLEARLY SEE THAT IT'S A 180 DEGREE ANGLE WHAT ARE YOU ON ABOUT." He took a bite out of the curried beef. "Why do I have to show it to you?"
"At least you're good at something. Look at me, I suck at everything. Even the stuff I like."
"What do you mean? You're amazing at writing."
"Yeah, but my teacher always says it's not 'creative enough', whatever that means."
"As if. You're one of the best writers in the class! Trust me, your stories are better than some of the books I've read."
"I don't think that's about the author. I presume it's about the genre. Whatever everyone likes. For example, I don't think someone who loves sci-fi would read a romance book."
"I guess so, but everyone should give it a try. Otherwise, they may not know that they might like a sci-fi romance book. Or a short thriller. If you only go on one very specific path, it's harder to find other things you might enjoy from another place."
"That is true..." I looked at my bento. "Hey, how come you never bring your lunch whenever we have a test or exam?"
"I might get sick."
"Oh, ok. Your lunches are cute."
"I make them myself! I pack them the night before and I just take them out of the fridge in the morning. I can make you one, if you want." He took another bite of his curry.
"Can you?"
"Do you want sausage octopi?"
"Why not?" I shrugged.
