Adeline Avery was not in the mood for bullshit.

She had woken up with a headache, felt nauseous, and she could barely keep her eyes open long enough to pay attention to where she was walking.

And to be fairly honest she couldn't give a shit.

If it wasn't already so painfully obvious, Adeline is not a morning person. Coupled with the fact that she felt like something was going on, something big, she just wanted to go down to the dungeons and drown herself in firewhiskey.

But as she sat at the Gryffindor table surrounded by Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley, Adeline could only lay her head down on her crossed arms to hide her eyes from the bright lights of the Great Hall. Stewing in her silent misery her mind couldn't help but wander.

That something big? Adeline knew it had to do with what happened right before the quidditch cup. Her father had been jumpy and quicker to anger, which she ended up being an outlet for, like always. She had also ended up spending most of the summer with Draco Malfoy due to her parents' meetings with his parents.

Her thoughts had just started to drift to a couple other Slytherins when the great hall doors suddenly slammed open.

Adeline had a death grip on the tables edge as she closed her eyes and steadied her dizzied brain. Opening her eyes she shared a confused look with Harry, who sat to her right.

They turned to looked at the doors and Adeline couldn't help but blurt out, "What the fuck?" when she saw who was entering the hall. There was Remus Lupin, the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher from their third-year walking with a shaggy black dog, several sets of parents, including her own. Seeing her parents made Adeline's blood run cold. She quickly averted her eyes and saw a few ministry workers, including Amelia Bones.

Everyone in the hall was stunned into silence out of shock.

That was until Dumbledore stood from his place at the head table and asked, "Friends, what are you doing here?"

Adeline had to turn her head as she rolled her eyes so hard she was sure they might get stuck.

Amelia Bones was the one to respond to the headmaster. Not acknowledging his friendly tone, she spoke, all business, "We all received letters saying you wanted to meet us and to come urgently."

Anything Dumbledore might have been about to say was abruptly cut off when a voice that made a shiver run down Adeline's spine said, "Since that is obviously not true, we have more important things to attend to rather than being... here of all places." Adeline watched as her father sneered and swiftly turned on his heel to try and exit through the great hall doors.

Before he could get more than a dozen feet a letter popped up and floated into Dumbledore's hands. He hastily cleared his throat before casting a Sonorus charm and reading, "You have received this letter to stop the upcoming war. Too many have suffered. Too many have died. We plan to stop that by showing you the future."

The occupants of the great hall were stunned into silence yet again. That quickly changed though when nearly everyone started yelling.

Adeline was quick to turn to Harry and ask, "How much trouble do you think we're in?" Ron had just dropped a chicken leg and let out a scared, "My mum's going to kill me."

Adeline couldn't help but spare a milliseconds glance at her own parents across the hall. If Ron thought his mother would kill him Adeline was in for a world of pain.

Hermione's voice drew her out of her dark thoughts as she said, "It's not like we didn't have our reasons for what we've done." She had spoken in her know-it-all voice as Adeline had silently dubbed it. The voice had only added to her headache.

Before the screaming could go on for any longer a loud bang rang out through the hall. With everyone's attention caught, Dumbledore told everyone to stand. Once that happened, he quickly rearranged the hall so that it became a much more comfortable space.

The headmaster even turned towards Adeline and her friends, which now included Remus and the shaggy dog, as he smiled and said, "Sirius, if you could turn back, please." People were confused by the address, and that confusion only increased as the dog whined and hid behind its paws.

Adeline looked at Remus, Harry, Dumbledore, and even Amelia Bones before crouching down to the dogs height. Petting his head she whispered, "I know it may seem scary, but if you change back you'll have a shot of being proven innocent." The dog uncovered its eyes and Adeline gave him a smile before standing up. She turned towards Amelia and dawned the pureblood mask she only uses at home. "Madam Bones." At the addressal Amelia observed Adeline and gave her a nod to continue. "Sirius Black was never given a trial after his arrest. If he is to reveal himself at this moment in time, I would ask for conformation that nothing is to happen to him until such a time where he is able to receive said trial."

Most of the hall stood stunned at Adeline's poise and perfect way of speaking to an authority figure. Usually, she was completely uncaring at how she acted.

Madam Bones contemplated Adelines words for several seconds, but in the end she nodded her head and replied, "Thank you for the information, Heiress Avery. If he is innocent, I'm sure we will be shown in this so called watching as well as a trial that can be set up afterwards." Adeline gave a polite nod towards the older woman before turning back to her friends.

Now with much less reluctance the shaggy black down shifted into Sirius Black.

In normal Sirius fashion, the man grinned before widely spreading his arms and waiting for Adeline and Harry to run into him. The two teenagers didn't waste any time as they did exactly that. Sirius ruffled Harry's hair making it messier than it already was. He then leaned down and kissed the crown of Adeline's head and mumbling, "Thank you, Addie."

Adeline didn't want to pull out of Sirius's hug, but she knew any longer would look suspicious, especially to her parents whose eyes she could feel burning through the back of her skull.

Sirius could see the silent turmoil swimming in Adeline's eyes as he looked her over. Wanting to make her feel better he stepped forward so he could whisper, "We'll all be with you through this, and we'll support you through it all. I promise." Adeline looked up at him with tears prickling in her eyes. "Really?" Sirius nodded with a watery smile of his own. As a traitorous tear slipped down Adelines face he wiped it away with his thumb and whispered, "I'll always be there for you."

Abruptly pulling groups around the hall out of their conversations was a loud popping noise.

Out of nowhere a large screen took the place of the head table while snack tables and bathrooms popped up in random places around the hall.

As if a switch flipped inside her brain, Adeline was no longer almost crying. Instead, she shrugged, threw herself over the back of a couch, plopped down and said, "Let's start this shit."
