"i think i should go back home."
neymar immediately furrowed his brows, putting the weights down on the floor, "why?"
"my mãe. and kaila. i haven't seen them in a while." luara responded with a shrug, leaning against the wall in front of him.
he stared at her for a moment, "i'm sure they're okay."
she huffed, "well, obviously. but i still want to see them."
"then i'll send my jet to them and they can come here."
"no, i want to go see them."
he ran his tongue over his teeth, squinting his eyes at her, "why, you trying to get away from me, linda? you tired of me?"
she rolled her eyes, "no. i just wanna go home."
confused, and leaned forward to rest his elbows on his knees, "you are home."
"my home." she responded, staring back at him.
he wasn't satisfied with her answer. he didn't like the fact that she had a different home to him, and he didn't like her reminding him of it, "i'll come with you then."
she chuckled, shaking her head, "no, they're both not very fond of you. i think you know that."
he shrugged, "well, they're gonna have to get used to me if we're gonna get married, huh?"
she opened her mouth to reply, but furrowed her brows. she paused, closing her mouth, looking back at him with a confused expression, "what?"
"we're gonna get married, so they're gonna have to warm up to me again at some point." he said bluntly, never taking his eyes away from hers.
for once in their whole relationship, even before they broke up and got back together again, and then broke up and got back together and so forth, he made her nervous, "don't say shit like that. you haven't even proposed."
"i did." he reminded her, and memories rushed back to her when he actually did propose to her. it was few years ago. he did it at night. it was their first time going out together after lockdown (and a series of arguments, of course), but she rejected him, leading to their 'final' breakup, "but i'll do it again if that's what you want me to do."
she didn't know what to say. no words came out of her mouth, she just stared at him in disbelief. taking her silence as an answer, he stood, taking her hand and guiding her to the bedroom. she still didn't know what to say to him, so she waited with crossed arms in front of the bed as he disappeared into the closet. after about a minute, he walked back out and sat on the edge of the bed, with her in front of him.
she cleared her throat, "what do you think you're doing? don't– don't fuck it up, what are you doing?"
he ignored her, but held onto the back of her leg to stop her from going anywhere as he opened the small black box in his hands, offering it out to her, "lua–"
she cut him off, "don't– don't even. not now."
"can you not?" he pulled her closer to him, "i'm trying to ask you to marry me."
she opened her mouth in shock as she actually realised what was going on, furrowing her brows as she stared down at him. she was in disbelief at what he was doing. she hadn't even thought about marrying him. she didn't know if that was a bad thing or not, but it just hadn't occurred to her. especially with how shitty their relationship was.
"lua, will you please marry me this time?"
she let out a small exhale, and her eyes flicked to the ring in the box. it was the same one he'd proposed to her with last time. silvery, sparkly diamond, somehow glistening in the dimly lit room. she took her bottom lip into her mouth and bit it clean.
"are you being for real?" she diverted her gaze back to his, which was hopeful, and pleading.
he scoffed with a slight amused smile, "of fucking course i am. why would i ask you to marry me just for you–"
she didn't expect it herself, but before she knew it she was cutting him off and pressing her lips to his in a strong, passionate kiss. it took him a moment to realise what she was doing, but he quickly, brought his free hand up to her jaw, running his fingers into her hair. she pushed him back against the mattress with the force of her kiss, moving her lips feverishly against his and settling in his lap.
"so," he chuckled, pulling away from her lips, "you saying 'yes' this time? i'm not keeping this ring for another three years, lua. it was collecting dust."
she forgot about the ring, and her answer for that matter. smiling sheepishly with a small laugh to herself, she sat back up, so she was straddling him, "yeah. yeah i am. yes, yes, whatever it is."
he laughed, digging the ring out of the box. grabbing her left hand, he carefully slid the diamond ring onto her finger. he watched her gaze soften as she looked at it resting perfectly on her finger. he tilted his head slightly, a small smile tugging at his lips as he stared. he didn't realise how much he'd actually love the sight of her with a ring on her left hand, but he adored it.
all he kept picturing was her in a beautiful white wedding dress, walking down the aisle with a gorgeous bouquet in her hands, all dressed up just to marry him. he kept thinking about their wedding day, what it'd be like, who was there, what it would look like, where it would be. he couldn't wait. he felt that familiar feeling you got in your stomach as a child when something really exciting was happening the next day and you couldn't sleep.
luara still couldn't believe what was on her hand. she'd never thought about getting married before. especially not to neymar. she never pictured herself as being someone's wife, and having a husband. it usually felt too mature for her, too elderly, but now, it felt right. she was happy about it. she was looking forward to it.
"you gonna tell me you love me then?" he intertwined his fingers with hers, placing a kiss to her ring finger as he rested his free hand on her waist.
she grinned, leaning down and pressing a kiss to his plump lips, "i love you, baby."
