The world of Terras was created by the Gods at the dawn of time. They shaped the land, sea, and sky and breathed life into the first creatures. Magic sprang up alongside life on Terras.
Eyris the Queen of Stars - Eyris is the chief goddess of the elves, representing wisdom, magic and foresight. She is said to dwell in the heavens, guiding the elven race with her starlight. The elven priests who serve Eyris are revered for their knowledge and longsight.
Aleron the Gardener - Aleron is the elven god of nature, representing growth, life and the bounty of the forest. Many elf druids serve as priests of Aleron, tending sacred groves and calling upon his power over plants.
Silwen the Everlasting - Silwen is the elven goddess of time, memory and longevity. The elves appeal to her to prevent the fading of memories over the ages and to grant them long life.
Dagnar the Forgefather - Dagnar is the divine ancestor of the dwarven race, representing craftsmanship, metals and the earth. Dwarven smiths dedicate every creation to Dagnar's glory, invoking his name over their forges.
Grimnir the Defender - Grimnir is the dwarf god of strength, perseverance and honor in battle. He is the patron of dwarven warriors and guardians, granting his favor to those who fight with courage and integrity.
Dagmora the Deep Mother - Dagmora is the dwarf goddess of the earth, stone and the deep things of the world. She is said to protect dwarven kingdoms from threats that arise below the mountains.
Ranu the Deepmother - Ranu is the goddess of the ocean depths revered by the merfolk. She is seen as the nurturing mother of all sea creatures. The merfolk make offerings to Ranu and beg her protection for their underwater kingdoms.
The avian pantheon consists mainly of air and sky deities:
Zephyrus - God of the winds, who controls the currents that allow the avians to fly.Aither - Goddess of the uppermost heavens and the realm above the clouds.
Nox - God of the night sky, stars and mysteries of the cosmos. Many avian mystics seek enlightenment by gazing at the night sky
The Dragons - The dragons exalt no gods but themselves. They consider themselves equals to any divine being, having been created with great power and intelligence by the original gods.
The high elves were the first race, created by the Gods to be wise caretakers of Terras. They lived in harmony for ages, using their magic to nurture the world.
The dwarves were crafted from stone by the earth goddess to be stewards of the mountains and underground places. They became master smiths and craftsmen.
Orcs evolved in the mountain tunnels, twisted by dark magic into a savage warrior race. They invaded the dwarven holds but were eventually subdued and contained in the western mountains.
Mermaids and sirens were born from the union of water spirits and sea creatures. They built magnificent underwater cities across Aquas.
The feather people descended from mystical bird tribes that inhabited the sky islands above Aldar.
The avians, also called the feather people, are descendants of mystical bird tribes that inhabit the sky islands above Aldar. They visually resemble tall, graceful and beautiful humans but with one or more pairs of bird-like wings.
The number and type of an avian's wings depend on their bloodline purity, with more pairs and angelic-like wings indicating higher status and purer blood.
Avians of the highest nobility and purest bloodlines tend to have up to four pairs of wings resembling swans, eagles or other grand birds. Their beauty and grace is said to be breathtaking.
Those of lower status and mixed bloodlines typically have one or two pairs of smaller wings like songbirds, marking them as being of lesser purity.
The avians built grand flying vessels and sky palaces high above the landbound races. They viewed the Mortals below with a mixture of curiosity and aloofness.
The avians shy away from conflict and value knowledge, aesthetics and spiritual enlightenment above all. Many pursue philosophies of detachment and simple pleasures like song and dance.
Dragons were the last race created, imbued with great power and intelligence by the Gods. They ruled the continents for ages but became greedy and tyrannical. The other races banded together in the Dragon Wars, finally. The allied races were able to repel and force the dragons into retreat, but most of the surviving dragons went into permanent exile and seclusion.
The Dragon Wars started when the dragons became increasingly tyrannical and abusive of their power. They attacked elven settlements, enslaved dwarven clans, and demanded tribute. The other races began organizing resistance movements.
The high elves were the first to face the dragons in open conflict. Using ancient magic and stealth, elven armies were able to ambush and wound several dragons. This emboldened the dwarves and humans to join the fight.
Dwarven smiths created powerful artillery and magical weapons that could pierce dragon scales. Together with their stonecraft and cunning, dwarven forces were able to trap and hold dragons at bay within their mountain fortresses.armies mustered from across Aldar and pioneered tactics to swarm and overwhelm dragons on the ground. Using dwarf craft, stealth, and sheer numbers, they inflicted the first major casualties on the dragons.
The tide turned when the allied races were able to coordinate their attacks and besiege major dragon lairs across the continents. Most dragons chose to retreat rather than be destroyed. Those that remained were driven into hiding or forced to keep the peace.
The Dragon Wars lasted for centuries and fundamentally altered the world. Human kingdoms rose up in the wake of the dragons' defeat. The dwarven clans reclaimed their ancient mountain halls. But both races had to contend with the loss of life and devastation from the prolonged conflict.
Wyverns and wyrms evolved from dragon stock, growing large and fearsome but lacking the intelligence of true dragons. They filled the void left by the dragons, occupying ruined cities on Vires.
The three continents have had intermittent contact and conflict over the ages. Trade and exploration across the vast oceans of Aqua has waxed and waned. The world of Terras now exists in a state of balance though tensions occasionally flare up between the races. The Gods remain distant but magic endures, influencing the people and lands of this vivid fantasy realm.
