"You should call out of work for the rest of the week," Crosshair murmured as he stroked your stomach, soft from sleep underneath your silky tank top. He was snuggled beside you, head tucked on your shoulder for once, lazily appreciating your curves with a gentle hand as you both slowly woke up to face the day ahead.
"You're gonna make me lose my job," you joked, nuzzling your lips into his rumpled gray hair to press a kiss to his head.
"Do you really need it?" he countered, lazily shifting his leg over yours
"I guess not," you laughed. Damn, he had a point. But as much as it drained you, it had been your only real purpose in life for years... What else would you do? You pushed the thoughts away. "But why now? I thought you were leaving."
"We are... But.." he hesitated, lifting himself up onto an elbow to look at you earnestly. His tone shifted, as though he were switching gears, "Would you still want adventure... if it were different?"
You tilted your head toward him, tucking an arm behind it as you considered, "Different how?"
"If it were with a different asshole?"
You burst into laughter, blasting him with your morning breath before clapping a hand over your mouth. When the initial delight at his humor subsided, you were overwhelmed with questions. The way he looked at you, slanted pale brown eyes gazing into your own so sincerely, created a little flare of excitement in a part of you that had been buried for ages. "What... I don't even know what that would entail..." you began.
"I want to show you Kashyyyk," he answered, causing your eyes to go wide and your mouth to drop a bit. You sat up fully, crossing your legs and turning to face him. Your eyes darted from his to the bed, back and forth, mind racing. You'd read about the homeworld of the Wookies, of course -- it sounded terrifying and enchanting at the same time. Watching your frantic processing, Crosshair moved a hand over yours, which was resting on your knee. "Until we get sent on a mission, Tech will be working on the chips. The others are going to Kamino with him, and they can take us to Kashyyyk on their way." He waited, the silence thick with yearning.
"Isn't it dangerous?" you managed, internally rolling your eyes at the complete 180 you'd made from the hard-ass exterior you always put on. "Like, there are so many animals, and even carnivorous plants..."
"In the wilds, yes," Crosshair answered, smirking affectionately. "I don't plan on dragging you out there, unless you misbehave..." He winked, sending a heat wave between your legs. You'd have to explore that later. "The villages are safe, at least the ones that are in more remote sectors of the planet. The Separatists were only recently fought back by the Republic, and it's likely they will try to retake the planet again. But for now, it's under Republic control, and we'll avoid the hot spots."
"What else do you plan to do if I misbehave?" you muttered, faking a laugh at your own crappy humor. Crosshair snorted, picking himself up to sit facing you as well now.
"You're deflecting," he observed, making you feel exposed and understood simultaneously.
"I..." you faltered, swimming with doubts and thoughts, but they were all slowly funneled down into a prevalent sense of excitement. "Okay," you breathed, feeling tingles spreading across your entire body. The small smile that curved his lips only amplified them, and he pinched your chin with gentle fingers.
"Let's get ready then."

A few hours later, you stood on a landing pad, a backpack slung across your shoulders. The Marauder sat in front of you, tall wings folded up, alight with activity. Crosshair was beside you, in full armor, rifle and backpack attached as usual. Your heart was pounding in your chest, and nausea was dancing around the edges of your stomach. What were you doing?! All the old voices were rollicking within, jostling one another for center stage. All the doubts, the self-condemnation, the insecurities, the resentment... You shifted on your feet, taking a deep breath in an attempt to calm yourself, then felt that firm, steadying hand on the small of your back. You turned to look at Crosshair, who tilted his head toward you behind his expressionless helmet, then pulled it off to regard you more openly. He was always so damn sexy in that armor, and you thought of the times you'd seen him in action. "You ready?" he asked quietly, layers of meaning in the invitation in his eyes.
