I'm preparing late lunch orders in the afternoon in the kitchen. After one of the other chefs came down with a sickness bug, I've been by myself for the last few days. Exhausted doesn't even cut it but William says I've been doing a great job.

The restaurant is always busy–especially now they put out a new menu that I helped to design and create. William was extremely impressed with the new plates that I created, something that matched the vibe of the restaurant.

When my shift ends at six o'clock, I say hello to Laura, the other chef who takes the night shifts mostly. I have no idea why she'd want to work late into the evening but she prefers it and I certainly won't take that away from her.

On the way out William calls me into his office, his eyes locked onto the screen as if he can't believe what he's reading. "You called, William?"

His dark eyes flick to mine and he flashes me a look of sympathy. A wave of anxiety crashes into my body, blood running cold at the sight of his expression. I'm sick of bad news after bad news, when can I fucking rest?

"Alex," he starts. "I think you should see this."

I walk straight towards his desk and glance at his computer, the new article spread large across the screen. In big capital letters at the top it says, 'LIAM KING, an admired and treasured member of Dashfield's community, new reports say that he isn't the saint that everyone saw him as.'

My eyes blink once then twice, then over and over again. I can feel my heart throb inside my throat as I scan my eyes over the rest of the article.

Someone is accusing him of being a home-wrecker, of purposely trying to tear relationships apart and boast about what he did to those who he hurt. That he was a sociopath, that he was a devil who hid his secrets by befriending the majority of the community.

I read over the person who has come forward to describe what Liam did, how he came across and how disgusting he acted towards people who he didn't give a shit about.

But this doesn't sound like my brother. No. No. Liam would never do anything like this.

They're liars. Every single person in this damned article and the stupid publishers who thought it would be wise to create a story about it. They're spreading false information because Liam would never be so cruel. He'd never do something like that.

He cared about the community, that was his priority. Not destroying relationships and families for the fun of it. He'd never stoop so low, especially after our mother left us, after our family was ripped apart.

My head spins round and round until I have to stabilise myself on William's desk.

"Alex, are you okay?" He stands from his chair to grip my arm.

I can feel my stomach beginning to lurch, eyesight becoming blurry. This can't be real, it can't. How dare they release something so disgusting without even thinking of the consequences of his family, of what my dad might be thinking.
