3rd pov

Elsewhere, Jaune regains his consciousness and finds himself in the smoky mental plane. He stands up. His form flickers between his current self and his past self.

???: "You never were the hero."

Jaune: "Alyx…"

Alyx appears behind Jaune.

Alyx: "You couldn’t save me."

Jaune: "I… couldn’t save a lot of people…"

Alyx: "Maybe it’s time for a change, to be the kind of man you always wanted to be."

Alyx holds her hand towards Jaune. Jaune slowly reaches his hand to hers, hesitates for a moment, and takes her hand. A light begins to glow, engulfing Jaune and Alyx. Jaune suddenly stumbles out from the smoke. He hears an explosion and looks up to see some bushes containing the leaves on fire, making a multi-colored smoke.

Back up top in the Tree, the Curious Cat possessing Neo’s body leaps forward and uses their claws to swipe at Blake. Blake dodges they’re attacks and tries to attack back, but NeoCat’s form shatters. They then kick Blake from behind, launching her several feet away. Y/n tries to attack the cat, finally getting his sword out of the wood, with a slash attack. However the cat dodges it, and so Kyo, still in his gorila form, tried to to a surprise attack after, thinking the Cat wouldn't have time to react, but they did. The two kept switching on who attacked the cat, hoping to get at least one hit, that is until the Cat kicked y/n's sword out of his hands and off the edge. Y/n tries ro grab it before it falls, but fails.

Y/n: "dang it! Not again!"

As he's distracted, the Cat takes on Kyo easily... not! The Cat attempts to leap and kick Kyo in the chest, only for kyo to grab their leg last second and smash the Cat into the wood floor.

Kyo-ten: "had enough"

NeoCat: "I don't know, have you!?*changes to nanami, pretending to cry* your hurting me, stop!"

Kyo-ten:*instinctively truns back into a fox* "nana? *sees his form* no wait-"

The Cat grabs kyo before he can change into something else and throws him at y/n's head.

Y/n/Kyo-ten:*as they collide and fall to ground* "fuck!"

Weiss stabs Myrtenaster into the ground blanketing it in ice, and Yang follows up with a ground smash, the two doing their Freezerburn combo attack. NeoCat leaps back and the combatants charge towards each other again, but suddenly, a tree branch drops in front of them.

Jaune:*off-screen* "The leaves!"

Weiss, Y/n, Kyo, Blake and Yang look up to see Jaune cutting down another tree branch.

Jaune:*throwing y/n's sword to him, who catches it perfectly* "Burn the leaves!"

Following his instructions, Yang fires some rounds from Ember Celica setting the leaves on fire, with Blake using a fire clone from her Semblance, Kyo turns into a small wyvern to use fire breath on the leaves, and y/n uses his sword to cut off more leaves and teleport them in front of kyo as Weiss uses her glyph to blow the smoke towards NeoCat’s way. Jaune jumps and lands on the ground, regrouping with Team WBY and t/n.

NeoCat:*cackles* "Taking a page out of the caterpillar's book, hm? *inhales the smoke* The leaves have no effect on me."

Jaune: "Maybe not, but that’s not the case for Neo."

NeoCat feels a sudden reaction and begins to cough, collapsing on their knees. Hallucinations of Ruby, Cinder, Jimmy and Carmel(her parents), and Roman appear within the smoke.
