[ chapter nine]

THE WHOLE CIRCLE WAS HERE, Ozzie sitting down on the armchair while Nikki sat across from him on the beach chair. Nate stood behind her, lifting 2 gallons of water as weights with Gwen at his side, checking out some records. I sat on the edge of the couch, staring at Nate as he did his lifts while Jay and Leia sat on top of the couch, seated next to one another.

"Summer is almost over. They gave me everything, and now they're taking it all away." Leia told everyone sadly as my eyes flickered to her figure

"Who's they?" Jay asked her with confusion, tilting his head and she glanced back at him, "I don't know!" she responded

"Duh, it's obviously Aunt Donna & Uncle Eric. Mostly Uncle Eric." I smirked at them and Leia nodded her head enthusiastically in agreement

"School. Son of a bitch." Gwen growled to herself with wide eyes and I glanced over to see her tightly holding onto a record

"I haven't even started my summer reading, so I'm reading one line from each book. "Big Brother is watching you." Okay, so it's about a perv. Next." Ozzie listed as he placed one book down and picked up another from his pile

"Hang on, there's a lot to love about starting a new school year. New homerooms, the smell of fresh textbooks, getting up early to learn." Nikki said in amazement as she stared off into the distance

"Are we at going to the same school? Fresh textbooks my ass." I scoffed at my best friend as everyone but Nate booed her, throwing stuff at her direction

"Hey! Go easy on her. School is cool. I mean, we learn stuff, and there's lockers, and...I'm sorry, Nikki. My heart's not in it." Nate apologized to Nikki with a frown and I smiled at him, knowing that he was trying to mend his friendship with Nikki still

" "Once you stop learning, you start dying." You know who said that? Einstein." Nikki quoted to us with a finger raised in the air in front of her

"Einstein the bear?" Nate asked her with confusion, lifting the gallons of water and Nikki scoffed, shaking her head at him, "I'm done."

"No, Nikki. Come back, Nikki." I called out to her softly as she walked past me to head over to the stairs to leave us

"I am so screwed. I was supposed to be working out all summer for football. But instead, I didn't." Nate told us as he set down the gallons, now starting to do push ups against the couch

"He was working me out." I told them proudly, a smirk on my lips and Leia, Jay and Gwen all 'gagged' at my words while Ozzie tilted his head at my direction

"Let me guess, against a tree?" Ozzie teased me and I nodded my head with a wide smirk and the three of them 'gagged' once more at that mere though

"Bro, come to my gym. I'll get you ripped. Here, check it out." Jay demonstrated as he flexed his arm, showing Leia his bicep

"It's like a snake ate a big rat, and it hasn't digested it yet." Leia told him and Ozzie and I gave each other a wide eyed look at her words

"I want snake arms. Let's do this." Nate told his best friend, glancing down at his arm with a frown

"Oh, since it's your last weekend, I traded shifts at work so we can spend tomorrow together. I wanna take you to my special place in the woods." Jay told Leia with a smile and I glanced over at my boyfriend, nodding my head to the couple behind me

"And that was the last time anyone saw her alive." Ozzie announced to us while I asked the important question, "Uh, is your special place like the one Nate and I have?"
