Ash watched as Serenas Braixen was getting a beating from Mega Mawile.
But then he remembered something....
"Hold on a second!" He shouted.
Valerie paused the fight.
"What!?" She shouted aggressively.
She was a bit frustrated that a battle she was winning was stopped halfway through - like any trainer would.
"What levels that Mawile?" Ash asked.
"Uh, Level 38?"
Serena looked confused.
"Her Braixen is only level 28..."
Valerie scoffed.
"So?"
"The official Kalosian Rule book states and I quote!" Ash said, "Pokemon that have a 10 level difference or higher are not permitted for use in official Kalosian battles, as severe injuries or even death can occur to the Pokemon"
Valerie looked confused.
"So basically what I'm trying to say is, your cheating" Ash exclaimed.
Serena looked at him with a sense of frustration.
"So, hand her, the badge" Ash ordered to Valerie.
Reluctantly, Valerie walked all the way up to Serena, and handed her the badge.
"Now get out of MY gym, before I hurt more than your Pokemon..."
All three of them exited the gym.
Outside the gym
"You idiot! You dipshit! You, You-"
"Listen Serena, there are rules for a reason" Ash replied, "No offense but Braixen - she was getting destroyed"
"I would've won just fine!" Serena replied, "We basically cheated!"
Ash sighed.
Shauna piped in, "It wasn't... Cheating, it was more, working smarter, not harder"
Serena glared at her.
"You're not even a battler what do you know?"
"Hey Serena-"
Before Ash could lecture her, Shauna replied.
"You are? Ash literally wins all your battles FOR you, it's almost like he's battling and not you"
"Girls, girls, calm down, no need to get so aggressive" Ash said, "Listen, I know I'm a great battler and teacher but that's irrelevant! What matters is that Serena is two badges away from entering the Kalos League!"
Serena paused for a second, and opened up her badge case.
"Your right! I am!" Serena replied.
Serena couldn't believe it; only a few weeks ago was she homeless on the streets of Lumoise, now she was two badges away from becoming a official participant in the Kalos league.
"See? it's not all bad" Ash said, "You could've lost the battle and the dream could've been over."
"I suppose, but what are we doing now?" Serena replied.
"Anistar City! The home of the 7th gym..." Ash said, "Maybe the most difficult, but also most worthwhile journey in Kalos"
"So? What are we waiting for? Let's go!"

"Serena...."
Ash looked at her, with confusion.
