The gentle breeze coming from the mountains on the countryside felt like a sign, the sun was shining so bright and not a single sight of the clouds. It was hot, making you want to jump in a pool every five seconds kind of hot. Not common at all for this time of the year in Seattle. It was supposed to be "moody weather", with rain and cinnamon coffees. It seems like this last couple of months of the year are going to be different. They should have seen it coming, nature tried to tell them but even the best of us can ignore the signs.
As for the city life, Lieutenant Maya Bishop and Doctor Carina DeLuca have been married quite some time and continue to be as in love as one can be, maybe even more. They made themselves a home out of a house, and healed things they didn't know needed to be healed. They know the road is long but even after fights, Maya and Carina are always there.
Even if it meant not seeing each other as much from time to time, both with very demanding jobs as first responders. Happiness for them became pretty simple: finding a note on the fridge or just arriving home and seeing they were both safe. It also meant a reason to get through another day. To get up and try. "Trying" lately became a synonym of stress, Carina with so many hormones in her body and Maya not knowing what to do anymore. At this point, both wanting a baby was just not enough anymore and honestly it was the easiest part, to realise they both wanted the same thing. Yet, how could they be missing something so badly when they have never even met it? What a funny world, "missing". To say "I miss you" is to say you long for something, whether you know it or this is yet be found. While yes, they could try other options both agreed to try another around in their current "baby making process". But before anything else begins - again - they needed a break. Carina was able to get a few days off from Grey Sloan and Maya... well, she finally used some of her personal days. And her Captain, also best friend Andy, kinda made her do so otherwise she could actually get a punishment. No babies, no hospital, and no fires. Nothing to do with work or children, just the two women in a nice five star countryside hotel not that far from Seattle. As Carina finished packing her bag, Maya was on her phone checking the weather for the millionth time, she just wanted everything to be perfect, and as much as she sometimes love rainy days, these next ones she was begging for some sun. Carina brought both their bags to the living room and smiled softly while looking at Maya, she turned off their vintage style radio that was playing some old italian songs, causing Maya to look up from her phone. She found Carina beautiful, getting up immediately and with a small kiss they shared, suddenly there was no worries about the whether or perfectly packed bags as long as they stayed together. The hotel they chose for this short vacation couldn't be more perfect, with big green fields and a forest nearby, making it perfect for picnics or walks. It had a big pool as well as a lake somewhere in the woods according to the website. The hotel building itself has the vibe of one big cottage, the restaurant has large windows with the most gorgeous view. You would never guess this place is so close to Seattle.
- Packed? Are we good? Maya asks.
- Si, bella. I got us some snacks too for the ride. Carina answers.
- I'll get the bags. Maya says.
The Italian nods and checks that windows are closed, everything is organised and as she sees Maya walking outside of their apartment, she grabs her purse and goes right after, locking the door behind her and following her wife to the car. Once both had seatbelts on, Maya started driving away in their recently bought SUV; leaving behind Carina's Porsche and their lovely apartment. Maya had sold her beloved red Jeep shortly after they started trying for a baby, she wanted a new car anyway and the excuse of one more family member seemed perfect, even if space was not exactly the problem. When everything... well, kinda went downhill with the baby situation, Maya avoided the brand new car until everything felt safe and not just a reminder again. Despite everything, the first they went out in the SUV couldn't have been happier. Carina took a picture of Maya in front of the car with the keys and proceeded to record a short video inside the car as maya started to drive for the first time. The italian was singing at the top of her lungs to the song playing on the speakers as Maya laughed, paying attention to the road. They went to their favourite gelato place and took a walk through the nearby park, and went home right after. Nothing fancy, yet so effortlessly perfect.
