I wanted freedom from my daily life. I left the life I worked so hard for and retreated to the forest. Only God and I knew where I was going. A secluded growth uninhabited by people for hundreds of years. A seven hour drive to where I would set up for the next few weeks. Nothing but the animals, trees, and me. That and the cold weather. It's a cold winter this year, ice and snow scattered about the mountain side. Nothing too difficult for me though, I've been in worse conditions before. The roads are barren, and I haven't seen anyone for miles. Suppose that's how it is in a rural area such as the deep Appalachian mountains. No one wants to risk coming out here and getting lost, stuck, or worse.

6 and a half hours later

Only half an hour away, I should've brought Robin and Jack out here one day. It's been six long months since I lost them. I should have protected them better. I should have taken those burglars out when I had the chance. It should've been me instead. I should've been the one shot in that chair.
