"Your Highness?" I asked looking confused.

"Uh, I meant your highness of the forest. Clearly you are...?" Nic looked a bit embarrassed and I couldn't tell why. He started out being this hot, intelligent looking guy who saved me from my ex boyfriend to a scared little boy.

"Clearly I am Robin Hood's daughter. I rob from the rich and give to the poor. Get it?" I started laughing but Nic was not amused. "Ok, maybe you don't get it. I sighed extending my hand out.

"Maybe our introductions should start over." I said easing the tension between us. "I'm Elizabeth Abbott but you can just call me Liz. I hate being called Elizabeth." I replied.

"I'm Nic." He said shaking my hand.

"That's it? You're just Nic?" I asked. There was silence. "Ok Nic with no last name, I can find out you know. I have friends here in this house who will tell me who you are." I laughed. What was with this guy? Was he always so serious?

"Ok, I think that's my cue to leave." I said anxious to leave the kitchen and the party. Having Mike show up spooked me. Having Nic rescue me intrigued me, but nothing I would say seemed to interest Nic. It was like he was studying me or something. Davis was right in that this guy was very quiet.

"Thanks for saving me from my crazy ex. Maybe I will see you in class since I was told earlier that we share classes together." Whoops! I wasn't supposed to let him know I knew that. Now he knows I was spying on him after seeing him earlier tonight. Act calm, Elizabeth and just breathe.

"Maybe." Nic bowed his head. I just nodded and walked out of the kitchen determined to find Maya. I had to tell her what just happened.

I went through all of the downstairs rooms with no luck in finding her. I did manage to pass by Ali, one of my sorority sisters as I made my way back towards the staircase that led upstairs. I really hoped Maya hadn't found some random guy and decided to hook up with him or worse, Terrance, in a bedroom in this frat house. I really needed my best friend right now but I sure didn't want to have to go upstairs.

As I scanned the living room again I saw Ali again but this time talking to Nic. It was as if they were whispering about something important. For someone who was supposed to be quiet and had my classes, Nic was certainly making himself known tonight. What did Nic see exactly in Ali?

All I knew about Ali was that her father was from Japanese decent and her mother was American. Ali was tall and had long black hair. She grew up in the states and was an excellent runner. She got a four year scholarship to be here and was on my track team. Ali didn't really open up much either but at least she would take time out to talk to you. Maybe that is why Nic is drawn to her; they are two quiet peas in a pod. No. Just no.

I got the image of them two dating out of my head and started to focus on finding Maya again. Still, as I searched the downstairs my mind crept back over to Nic and Ali. I found them again in the same spot until Nic turned his head, focusing his attention to me. Our eyes met and I couldn't take it. I ran back through the kitchen and out the back door that led to the outdoor patio area. I found Maya and her man, Terrance standing out in the gazebo in the yard.

"Maya!" I said running over to my best friend. "Oh, sorry." I said when I realized that she was with Terrance. Well she found him.

"I didn't know you were with someone. These blasted tiki torches." I said.

"I'm a little busy at the moment. Whatever it is can it wait?" Maya said as her arms were wrapped around Terrance. Apparently, I was breaking up their make out session.

"I'm sorry to uh, disturb you." I said backing away.

"No, its ok. I don't think that we have ever been properly introduced. I would love to know who my baby's friends are." Terrance said.

"He called me baby." A tipsy Maya replied. I just laughed. Well, my best friend was out to snag Terrance and well, Terrance she got.

"I know who you are. You are Terrance Morgan, captain of the football team and starting quarterback." I smiled proudly. I might not go to a game but I know who plays football for our school.

"Indeed I am." Terrance smiled.

"This is my best friend, Liz who is now going to leave us." Maya said pushing me away.

"Fine, but I still need to talk to you and I better have details tomorrow." I grinned as I waved by to Terrance.

"Now, go. You are ruining my fun time." Maya laughed.

I walked back into the kitchen and through the house to the front door. At least one of us was having fun and enjoying themselves at this party. I guess I would be leaving the party and walking alone back to the sorority house.

"Would you like some company?" I heard behind me as I started to walk out the front door.

"Nic?" I turned around.

"It's a nice night for a walk." Nic replied with his hands in his pants pocket.

"My place is just across the street and down a few houses. I think I will be ok." I said.

"My apologies." Nic politely said backing up.

"You know what? On second thought I would like it if you joined me, even if it is a short walk." I smiled.

Not a word was spoken as Nic walked me to my house. He walked as far as to the front porch and stopped as I started searching for my key to the front door of the sorority house. “Found it!” I proudly replied. “Would you like to come in?”

“Maybe another time.” Nic scanned the premises. He appeared anxious that something might come charging out of the bushes or something.

“So I never got a last name out of you.” I casually replied.

“Shouldn't you be getting inside?” Nic looked at me with his protective green eyes.

“You know what? I think I'm going to stay out a bit longer.” I safely tucked my key back into my costume purse and walked over to the white porch swing. Nic sat on the first step of the porch. This was definitely turning out to be a weird night.

“I don't get it. There's the party over there. You obviously want me to go inside for whatever reason which I refuse to do right now. You decide to walk me back to my sorority house which is like one minute away and yet here you sit on my porch refusing to talk. What do you want from me, Nic?” I angrily said.

“I don't want anything. I just want to make sure you are ok. I mean that ex of yours could come back.” Nic said.

“Mike won't come back after me.” I sighed looking away from Nic.

“What happened between you two?” Nic asked having some nerve.

I got up and walked over to the front door with my key in hand after getting it back out. I had my back to him as I fumbled the key in the lock. “You have no right asking me what happened. It isn't your business. I don't even know you for that matter to ever consider telling you about my relationship. You want to know why? You won't even talk to me or tell me anything about you! I think I'm finally going inside. There, are you happy? I mean, why even bother walking me back to the house?” When I was done with my rant, I turned around as I opened the door. Nic was gone.
