Today was Monday and it was a new day. Maya and I were the first ones to leave the house. We spent most of the day at my parent's house relaxing on Sunday. Mom and Dad had installed a heated pool a few years ago and it was also nice to have a home cooked meal. Maya's family moved out of state last year so whenever school breaks are necessary, Maya lives with us. My parents had insisted.

"I had so much fun yesterday."  Maya said as she hopped into my blue, Volkswagon Beetle.  "There were no boys to talk about, and no drama. Speaking of boys, do you think Nic is going to be there in our classes today?"

"Maya! I hadn't thought about him for one whole day!"  I said.

"I'm sorry."  She said before taking a pause. We arrived at the History building for our first class of the day. "Well, do you think he will show?" She pressed getting out of the car.

"You must really want me to talk to him."  I sighed.

"Look, your single. He might be single. He's hot and your..." Maya replied trying to make me smile.

"Don't even say I am hot! I'm just a plain jane, nobody." I remarked as we walked to class.

"If that's true then why do guys flock to you? I mean Mike was the Captain of the Basketball team. And you briefly dated a wrestler, and a football player, and..."She stopped to stare at me.

"Me dating people from a sports team says nothing."  I shook my head. "I can't help who I dated in the past, besides none were ever serious except for Mike."

"Whatever." Maya rolled her eyes as we made it to our first class of the day; World Civilizations. I loved history. Any history class would suit me but Maya didn't like history that much. She said it was too nerdy for her because not all but most of the guys were nerdy looking. Sometimes she made no sense.

"His seat is empty." Maya whispered to me as she took her normal seat next to mine.

"Maybe he has a good excuse." I replied.

Mr. Murphy our professor took his usual post outside the door and starting timing to see who all would end up making his class on time. Just when I thought Nic wasn't going to show up he came in just as Mr. Murphy had grabbed the classroom door to shut it. Maya and I both looked at each other. I turned briefly to see him take his usual seat in the back of the room. He looked up and his green eyes stared straight into mine. I quickly turned back around and prepared to take notes from Murphy's lecture. Somehow, as hard as I tried to concentrate, all I could think about was Nic's piercing green eyes and how I could feel them still staring at me.

I jumped as Mr. Murphy's timer went off to let him know to stop rambling and that class was now over.  I hadn't even taken any notes when I looked down. Instead, I had doodled Nic's name over and over. I quickly closed my notebook and stuffed it into my bag. "Go ahead and start walking to the Science building. I will catch up."  I said to Maya. She gave me a confused look.

I pushed past the crowd that had started to leave. Nic was still sitting in his seat, putting away his notes and book. What was I thinking walking over to his desk. I am not like this. I never talk to a guy or ask a guy out first. Wait, is that what I am going to do?

"How would you like to go and see a movie with me tonight?"  I blurted out. No! What am I thinking?

Nic looked up at me confused at first but then I saw him do something I hadn't seen him do. He smiled at me. "Are you, Elizabeth Abbott asking me out on a date?"  He asked. Gosh, that smile was killing me. He was such a bonafide hottie. Why did it take me so long to notice him?

"It's Liz." I corrected but something in the way he spoke my name sent shivers down my spine. "And yes, I mean, no.."

"Well, which one? Yes, it's a date or no it's not a date."  He replied cocky. My heart raced.

"Friends. Just as friends."  I managed to get out.  A piece of his hair fell across his forehead. He ran his fingers through his hair.

"Sure. I would love to go out on a friend date."  Nic answered.  "It would be nice for me to get out once in awhile."

"Ok."  I said turning around to leave.

"Wait! What time do you want to see the movie?"  He asked.

"Sevenish."  I replied biting my lip afterwards.

"K. I will pick you up at your place at seven."  Nic said.  I just turned around and bolted. In fact I ran from the History building to the Science building; heart racing and a smile beaming across my face.

"What was that all about? Like seriously, you just ditched me."  Maya said as I took my seat in the next class.

"I just asked Nic out on a date tonight!"  I squealed as her mouth dropped open.
