I have to get out of here. I just have to.
I sprinted to the end of the hallway and skidded to a halt.
"Left," I barked, and we took off again.
If we're caught, we're dead. I'm terrified at the thought of what will happen if we're caught, but we must do this.
My mind flashed back to Lilith being thrown back by the force of the bolt. Crimson blood arcing up to splatter on the wall a second before she smacks into it with an audible crack. Moments later she's overwhelmed by the mob of enforcers. They're stomping-
I shook the thought from my mind, disturbed. This was no time for musings of the past.
The gangly kid with a mess of blonde hair running next to me is Kai Lambert, or just Volt to me. He can be a shock to your system when you first meet him but he's my best friend in the whole world.
"Wait," Volt panted.
"We can't stop here. If someone spots us and sounds the alarm-"
"I know! I got this!" he exclaimed grinning.
"Hurry," I growled, trying to suppress my own grin. Kai's constant sense of humor and ease is contagious, even at a time like this.
Kai turned and faced the security console beside him on the wall, eyes shining with anticipation. He splayed his palm out and a crackling bolt of pure blue electricity leapt from his hand to the console, leaving it smoking and sparking.
"That should take care of the alarm," he said, beaming like a small child.
"Nice one buddy. Now run."
This time we swung right, flying down the sterile hallway lined with identical doors. A piercing, artificial light penetrated everything. Our feet created a frantic rhythm of dull slaps on the shining linoleum. My heart was pounding as I forced deep breaths in to my lungs. We arrived at a dead end with a solid six inch steel door. Standard stuff. Bio-scan required.
"Okay my turn. Look out Volt," I growled, a wave of confidence and pride practically pouring out of me.
If the map I stole was correct this should be an exterior room.
I pulled from that ocean of power that I could always feel, boiling just beneath the surface. My claws came out accompanied by a dull ripping sound. My face hardly twitched. I'm used to the pain. My muscles rippled under my shirt in anticipation, as I stepped back with my right foot, pulling my fists up in front of me. Then I shot my foot powerfully forward, swinging my right hip with it. A fraction of a second later my fist slammed in to the door sending it flying, crumpled and ruined, in to the dark room beyond.
I could easily see in to the murky darkness and to my relief, behind the scattered medical equipment there was indeed a window.
"Stop!" a harsh voice yelled out. Volt and I spun around simultaneously to see three in enforcers in full battle gear, standing at the opposite end of the hallway, rifles leveled at us. They were wearing black padded body armor and helmets that covered their faces. Their guns were black also, with a metallic gleam that was enhanced due to the bright red strip of light that ran down the stocks of the guns. I let out a low growl by instinct.
"Ready to jump Kai?"
"Of course man! See you down there."
With that we took off at dead sprint as plasma bolts slammed into the spot we were just standing at, sending broken glass flying. I leapt the final ten feet to the window, curling my body up as I smashed in to the large reinforced window. It's a good thing that Volt and I hit at the same time too. Man that stuff hurt. Who knew they made glass so strong?
