A shelter

The building was not more than two stories high. It gave the feeling of a nice cozy home.

(Thud..... Creeeeak)

As soon as I opened the door, I stepped into the living room.
It had comfy couches and a big shelf with books. Some of them on the floor. There was a side table filled with small frames. Then there was a hallway connecting to a kitchen, two rooms and a bathroom.

The kitchen was quite wide and connected to an outdoor balcony. It had all the latest technology. But had an old style dining table. Laid out with mats and a flower pot on top. It gave the feeling of a perfect home except the few objects lying around scattered all over the floor. The flowers once full and blooming had now become dropped and were facing down. A plate full of food, now infested with flies. It gave a foul smell.

I threw it away. I opened the fridge. The electricity and water supply was gone. No surprise there. It was a good thing I had collected a lot of water due to the rain. The contents inside were still a bit cold. Maybe it was the weather, maybe something else.

I went to check the bedrooms.

The main bedroom seemed to be of an ancient style. Its wardrobe was full of men's clothes and deep within a few garments for a female. They were also quite out of style. A big window looking out to the front of the house. It was hazy now. All there was outside was a cold and desolate cement floor.

Yes, an old couple must have lived here.

I went to the next room. It was too neat and seemed unused. It must have been a guestroom.

The bathroom was nice. I cleaned myself with a clean cloth and dressed up. The clothes were too big, but they had to do for now.

The bathroom had a few cabinets.

I found some medicine in one of them and treated my wounds. There were some painkillers. I took one, there was an expiry date. But I didn't know the date, today. There was no way of knowing.

I used to get hurt a lot as a kid, so I knew some simple first aid. The bleeding had stopped long ago, but there was a risk of infection. The medicine I poured hurt more than when the cuts were bleeding. I hissed.

(Hissssss... Huh,huh
.... Aah..ouch....phew)
(Clank...)

I clenched my teeth. The painkillers weren't working.

Finally it was done. I wrapped my wounds with a gauze. It was a bit loose. I could barely dress the wounds. Wrapping the gauze just right was too hard.

(Growwwl...)

I looked down. I was starving.

I desperately needed to eat after so long.

(Clunk)
I made my way to the kitchen and opened the fridge. There was some milk and bread, but it gave the same foul smell as earlier.
Some fruits, also rotten.

After searching all over. I found something to eat.

There were some dried fruits and canned food. There was also some cheese and packaged products I could eat. There were some spices and utensils for two.

I only needed one.

I whipped up something. After eating, I was finally contended and happy. I looked through the kitchen window it was still raining, much softer now. I made my way to the living room.
