Episode 24: TWBF (Two Weeks Before Finals)

"I should've known you'd be here." Q sat across from Kitty at a table surrounded by opened notebooks and textbooks.

"Hey I'm sorry. Finals are coming up and I wanted to get a head start."

"I understand. You're wanting to keep up with your grades. Which you're doing so much better than last semester."

"I know Q. It's cause of all the drama I was in." Kitty looked up from her book. She looked at Q who had a water bottle in hand.

"Well how about you Q? What have you been up to?"

"What do you mean? We're together like practically 24/7."

"Q how have you been doing lately?"

His face dropped, he knew this conversation would happen. He's prepared to tell Kitty everything and yet, he still hasn't said anything. But now, now is the time to.

"Honestly. I'm doing okay. Before I wasn't. But after some time and acceptance, I'm alright now."

"That's good. I'm glad to hear that. And if you don't mind me asking...what about Florian?"

"Yeah about him...when we saw him at the karaoke place that night, I texted him later on."

Q texted Florian about what he saw, but it wasn't sent. That meant Florian must have changed his number or got a new phone, at least that's what Q thought which worried him more.

After Florian was kicked out, he went down the wrong path. He did what he could to stay in Korea because he didn't want to leave Q, but he really did not want to leave Korea at all. It was something new for Florian, that he could do on his own without his parents. He was able to be himself here.

After wandering the streets with the money he had left, he found a rundown place. Florian was hesitant about the place but he had no where else to go. It was only a few days later when he found someone else. That being the guy who gave him the test answers. 

His name was Lee. Florian saw him as his lifesaver and blindly fell in love with him. Lee knew this and took advantage. It started off as a cute thing between the two but once Lee knew he had Florian hooked, he flipped the switch. Drugs were used; abuse began; alcohol intake increased and Florian accepted it all. He was used as a delivery boy for Lee and a punching bag. But Florian did nothing, he still believes Lee loves him with the few sweet moments they have together.

The same night Q texted him, he thought Florian didn't receive it but he did. He never responded because he finally opened his eyes to his current lifestyle. This was something Florian did not want to do at all. Or be part of. After he had lied to Q's face when they last saw each other on campus, Florian did not want to confess again of what is going on. He'd be too ashamed and embarrassed.

So Florian decided to get out that night. He knew when Lee left and what time he comes back. So once he got his chance, he escaped and hailed a cab on his way to the airport. He wanted to say goodbye one last time to Q but it might be better if they didn't see each other. At least Florian did not want his first love to see him like this. So instead, he sent a goodbye text.

"So you knew Florian was doing drugs and being abused when you last saw him?"

"Yeah." Q felt terrible to this day that he couldn't do anything for him.

"By the look on your face, you feel bad you couldn't help him." Q nodded his head. Kitty reached over the table and held his hands in hers.

"I'm sorry this happened. But at least you know now he is safe and away. He told you that. All you can do is trust him. Now you shouldn't feel bad because Florian did not show any sign he wanted to be saved. It seems like he was too 'in love' with Lee to realize what was really going on. You know what they say, you can't help someone if they don't want to help themselves."
