(Fu Xuan's POV)

As I lean against the wood balcony, my eyes naturally shift to the Matrix. After all, it is the centerpiece to my commission, my irreplaceable partner.

The days of its maintenance however, are always the days I dread the most. With no work, what am I to do?

My eyes remained locked to the now dim Matrix, until it caught glimpse of our new recruit. He seemed a decent enough gentlemen, a bit too tall for my liking however, but I will admit that his face at least, was a little... cute.

My thoughts ran as I stared, so I was startled when the Matrix suddenly snapped back on, the clockwork of its scrolls beginning to turn, the light once more illuminating my home.

It seems our maintainer was quite the talent. I couldn't help a smile grow across my face. I did promise him a reward didn't I? Hmmm, well an extraordinary job deserves an extraordinary reward does it not?

His elation was on full display as his feet shuffled back and forth underneath him. He ran, in a rush to return to my side.

"Diviner Fu! I have finished the abacus realignment with no issues."

I see that. You've done an excellent job maintainer.

I walked up to him, closing the distance. Tilting my head upwards to meet his eyes,

I'll do for you what I seldom do for others: a personal divination. What say you, maintainer?

His eyes went wide as he processed my words. His body leaned forward, swiftly kneeling before me as his head hung low.

"It would be an honor, Diviner Fu."

It was certainly a lot easier to look at him when he was kneeling, but his face being so up close did make me flinch a little.

Very well, I shall begin.

My hands hovered above his head, lightly brushing his hair. I closed my eyes, focusing only on his presence. My world now only consisted of him. I peered deep into the beyond, calling for an image, a feeling to return... I saw a long hall stretch before me, pearl-white marble walls stretched far above, supported by wooden braces.

It seems in this divination, I was still myself. The maintainer was at my side as we walked down the hall together. Perhaps it was the commission's regular end-of-term dinner party? Or at least I thought it was until we stopped at the end of the hall.

This moment was the most vivid of the divination. His large rough hands touched my cheek, he held it gently. His palm was warm; his callouses tickled my skin.

He pulled me in close as he leaned down, his face only but a couple inches from mine. His face tilt as we grew ever closer, our lips about to meet-- !!

In shock, I was pulled out of the divination. Sweat ran down my burning face.

"Diviner Fu? Did you see anything?"

A typical question, yet it shook me to my core. His head tilt upwards, staring straight into my eyes as he asked me the question, but I couldn't bear to stare back.

N- No, nothing crazy. Y- you have a good future, I assure you.

His face was so close to mine, it kept reminding me of the sensation from the divination.

"Phew, you looked so spooked so I thought you'd seen something horrible. Are you feeling alright, Diviner Fu? You look unwell."

He only leaned slightly forward, but that was enough to make me flinch back. His face was too much for me right now. I'm sure mine must be beet red.

I- I'm fine, maintainer... Umm, just Fu.

My arm involuntarily raised to cover my mouth as I realized what I was saying.

"Excuse me?"

That didn't stop me however.

Y- you can just call me Fu! Only when we're off work of course...

I only managed a glance at his eyes before I couldn't take it anymore and excused myself on the spot. What should I do!? He definitely thinks he did something wrong or that I saw something weird that I can't tell him about. Well I did, but still...

Oh gosh, my heart is still beating... ///
