"Oh my god," my best friend Ellie says, stopping in her tracks. "I think I'm in love. I think this is what love at first sight feels like."

It's the first day of school and we're going to our lockers before first period. The fact that Ellie has already found her 'love at first sight' isn't surprising. Ellie falls in love easily. I do too. Well, I used to that is. Before my parents divorce. Before I stopped believing in love.

I look up from my phone to see who the guy Ellie is staring at is. Staring might be an understatement. Actually, it's definitely an understatement. Ellie is literally drooling over this guy. When I realize which guy Ellie's looking at, I can't deny that he's attractive. He's tall with brown hair and dark blue eyes.

"Ellie, this is definitely not love at first sight," I tell her.

"You don't think he's hot?" She asks. "You're kidding!"

"It's not that it's-"

"Omigod he's coming over here!" She exclaims. "He must have seen me looking! Maybe he feels the connection too!"

But I know he's not coming over here to talk to her. He's coming to talk to me. You probably think I sound really self absorbed right now so let me explain. I realized after 5 seconds of looking at this guy who he was. He's not some new guy like Ellie must think he is, he's Ethan Greene. The guy I've had a rivalry with for our entire academic careers. And the reason he's coming over here right now is not to ask either of us for our number but to pick a fight with me like usual. Before I get the chance to tell Ellie that this is Ethan and whatever she's feeling probably shouldn't be love, he starts to talk.

"Well if it isn't Allyson Reynolds. How was your summer? I figure you spent the whole time chasing after guys who wouldn't even glance in your direction instead of doing the summer reading, am I right? That seems to be you and Elizabeth's style," Ethan says.

Ellie looks at me, confused for a moment, and I see it click in her head exactly who this is.

"Actually, Ethan, I read a ton this summer and I wrote a 10,000 word essay for the summer reading project!" I say, smiling.

Ethan laughs, raising an eyebrow. "I wrote 11,000. Oh and I read a lot too! 30 books to be exact." He has a smirk on his face that makes me want to slap him.

Still, I know I beat him in one way. I smile. "Really? Well, I read 31."

Me and Ellie walk away leaving Ethan glaring after us. I know I probably sound stupid and annoying to anyone listening to me argue with Ethan but he makes me so angry that I get excited over any petty victory I can get.

"You're telling me, I just said I was in love at first sight with Ethan Greene?" Ellie asks indignantly. "And you let me?"

I laugh. "I tried to tell you! You cut me off! Besides, it couldn't have been love at first sight, you've seen him before."

"Still. It's absolutely disgusting that those words ever came out of my mouth. Love and Ethan should never be put in the same sentence." Me and Ellie both laugh. "Oo speaking of love..."

At that moment, Asher Postuck walks right into, knocking my books on the ground. "Oh shit sorry Addison," he apologizes, picking up the books he knocked down and handing them to me.

"It's Allyson," Ellie points out.

"Cool. Sorry Allyson." He smiles and then runs down the hallway to catch up to his friends.

"Omigod! You guys are totally soulmates! That was like, movie level true love!" Ellie exclaims.

I've had a crush on Asher since the sixth grade. We're in tenth. Asher's the perfect movie dream guy: blonde hair, bright blue eyes, captain of the football team, and until today, he's never spoken to me. I always figured we were soulmates. Now I know soulmates aren't real. Now I know movies are fake. Guys don't fall in love with the sweet smart girl in the front row of their history class, they fall in love with the girl who wears a short so shirt it could be a bra, a mini skirt, and too much eye makeup. At least my dad did. And Asher seems to be following in his footsteps.

"I don't know El... I think I might be getting over him. Besides he only talked to me this once, and he didn't even know my name," I say.

"If you say so..."

Authors note:
What did you guys think of this chapter? It wasn't the best thing I've written so if you have any constructive criticism please give me it, but please say it kindly. I might rewrite the chapter if I reread it again and hate it but we'll see. The next chapters gonna be from Ethan's perspective and will probably come out later today but might not come out until Saturday (It's Thursday where I live). I know a lot of authors update on a schedule but I really just write when I feel like it and publish everything I write the moment I finish it which is also why my work might not be the best because it is all completely unedited. I also won't be writing authors notes like this very often this is just a start of the book thing. Bye!
