I startled awake when I felt a hand on my mouth. I wanted to scream but someone sushed me quickly.
"Shh! It's just me shank! Don't go in panic mode, please!" I heard Minho wisper-scream. I slowly pulled his hand back from my mouth when he saw that I realized it was him.
"Goddammit Minho! You almost scared the klunk out of me!" I wisper-screamed. I sat up while Minho took a few steps back from my bed.
"Get dressed. I've gotta show you something." He whispered as he walked out, closing the door behind him.
I stood up and walked to my window, opening my curtains. I frowned at the sight. It was still dark. Not completely, tough. But for sure, around 5 A.M.
I sighed as I lit a small candle to light up my room. Even though the curtains are open, it was still dark.
I walked over to my closet to find nothing but a pair of cargo pants and a small, tight t-shirt. I sighed and grabbed them.
After I got dressed, I brushed my hair and put it in a high ponytail.
Today was my first day of running. I was kinda scared but also happy. I finally got to leave this shuck place for some hours.
I blew out the candle and walked out of the homestead to meet Minho, who was leaning against a wall.
"Why so early? You never wake up this early." I asked.
"I've gotta show you something." Minho answered while walking away.
I followed him until we reached the north wall. He then pushed away some ivy to reveal a tiny window. It has been there for a long time, I could see it. It was tinted yellow and had small cracks here and there.
I looked at Minho in confusion. "What am I supposed to see?" I asked.
"Trough this window, you can see into the maze. So, if you wake up early, like we did, you can see the grievers." Minho's serious tone caught me off guard for a second.
I stepped a bit closer so I could see a bit better.
But all I could see were gray walls and a long ass hallway. The walls looked exactly the same as in the glade. Just as tall and gray and ivy covering them.
"Just wait. One will come. Just wait.." Minhk also looked through the tiny window.
A few minutes passed by, and there was still nothing.
I heard Minho muffle something under his breath, what sounded like 'Why is that shuck griever taking so long..'
I still watched out the tiny, yellow tinted window when I saw something move in the long hallway in front of me. I squinted my eyes to see better, but it didn't do much.
I saw it again. It was a huge spider-like creature from what I could see. I blinked a few times before I saw it sprinting towards me.
It came closer at rapid speed, and I now could see how it looked. It had an animal body with six maganichal legs. It was absolutely horrifying to look at. I couldn't remember this creature as normal as I remembered cats and dogs.
It sprinted towards me, but I couldn't move. My eyes widened as I could see it's face. No words can describe how ugly and horrifying it looked.
I tried to move away from the window, but it felt like I had lost all feeling in my body. Goddammit, Anne, just move away! I thought, but it didn't help.
In no time, the griever was at the window looking directly into my eyes. I looked it straight into its eyes.
My eyes wondered off his face and looked at its body. Its body was covered in a slimy kind of stuff. There were thick hairs growing out of its body.
